Fantastic location of lodge
This lodge is run for the benefit of the community and we were therefore surprised that it was so expensive. We were only able to do a short walk unaccompanied from the lodge and all the other activities are very expensive, even the short guided walk. There is not a lot else to do there and clients should be aware of this when booking. We did the rhino tracking day, which was good, although we didn't actually see any. The pathways around the lodge are very uneven and the steps up to our chalet were very narrow and I thought quite dangerous, especially as there was a steep drop off. The towels were tired, though the lodge has only been open a few years. The situation of the lodge is fantastic.

Astonishing views. Nice rooms, excellent shower. No matter how the food or the service is, and they were very good, it is worth the visit.
Wonderful landscape!
Grootberg Lodge review
You stay here for the view! We took lovely walks, both with and without a guide, Nice rooms and welcoming staff. We were a bit surprised to find a group of staff hanging around the front door smoking and ignoring Mike lugging cases to our car. Even the management appeared to spend their days smoking on the verandah!
It didn't spoil our enjoyment of the place though.
The terrifying 4x4 climb is worth it
This place will take your breath away, both in the 4x4 climb up the mountain side and the view you will experience when there.
Once again the staff could not have been more helpfull and friendly.
Beautiful Lodge building with such a nice atmosphere. It was here the staff 'choir' sang for us. Such good fun and entertaining.
The next morning our huts clung hung high on the valley rim wall while the clouds beneath us flooded the valley floor. A truly wonderful sight.
Take a dip in the swimming pool for the untimate photo opportunity: a true infinity pool.
Then came the drive back down...mmm
Grootberg- views!
Great views over the canyon and a good place to stop for a rest after Etosha. We didn't do much here but that was why we came- for a relaxing time and to enjoy the views.

We really enjoyed staying at a lodge run by the local people. The rooms have a fantastic view over the valley with a cool veranda to sit on. Inside, the shower and bathroom are a little small. The infinity pool was also a great treat in the heat of the day.
The trips available were very good, again finding desert elephant with great sensitivity. It would have been useful to know that the Himba were over a 2 hour drive away. However we were very impressed with how the camp have addressed the issues of tourists visiting the people and it felt beneficial to them as well as us - and not in the least forced.
The dancing and singing from the staff at one meal time was very entertaining

Outstanding setting overlooking the Klip River Valley. The really outstanding part of our stay there were the activities and our guide: Elephant tracking, Klip River drive and the Himba trip. We were fortunate to have Desi as our guide on all three trips. Desi is a wealth of knowledge on the area, particularly the birds. He not only can tell you about nature, but also about the local people and their communities and their life in this somewhat harsh environment.
We felt the entire staff had the utmost concern about pleasing the guests, and they did.
R & R in Grootberg
A different atmosphere from the Wilderness Camps but still very good.
Incredible views and so many small aniamls and birds to spot from the veranda of the rooms.
I didn't take a game drive as we were going on to Etosha but I rather wish I had.
fantastic and dramatic location
The location was stunning . The hosts were very efficient and helpful in sorting out our tyre punctures. Compared to the other places we stayed the atmosphere was rather serious and less relaxed.
The food was generally good and the activities well organised
Grootberg Relaxation
After attempting to drive up to the lodge in our 2x4 car and scaring the living daylights out of every one we parked and were met once again very warmly even though we arrived very early!!
The setting was breath taking as was the temperature of the pool water. Lots of different wildlife to see especially birds.
Activities were well organised and once again the guides were excellent. What to say about the staff, they were fantastic, friendly, helpful but useless at netball !! ( Florida and Marianne watch out for a rematch)
Food was once again excellent and served in a friendly atmosphere or was this the effect of Florida's special Springbok and Orryx cocktails? The lodge does have an extremely community based feel about it and you are made to feel like one of the family.
