"Hobatere Lodge review"
"small lodge in beautiful landscape"
Lovely warm welcome from staff and excellent food and drink. Safaris yielded plenty of game and elephant. Sadly no lions this time (18 in 2017)." See all these reviews: 16n in Namibia; 5n in Botswana; 2n in Zimbabwe
"Hobatere Lodge"
One night would have been sufficient (in the wet season).
They provide tea and coffee sachets in the rooms, but no kettle. There are hair-driers, so presumably there's enough power for a small kettle.
Rooms adequate, but not high class; small and airless; no a/c." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia

"great "
"Hobatere Lodge review"
Main lodge is impressive overlooking a small waterhole which attracts a myriad of birds as well as elephant and lion during our two night stay.
Food was to a good standard with a varied dinner menu each night we were there. Cooked breakfast was available as well as normal cereal and fruit. Accommodation was slightly disappointing, rooms were tired and not cleaned to a high standard.
We took an evening game drive, saw elephant and lion by the main Waterhole, other game was not prolific. Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the flora and fauna.
Next day we decided to drive into Etosha and we’re rewarded with black rhino, elephant and lots of antelope and birds." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia
"Almost on safari from the terrace"
Staff were very friendly, efficient & food was great.
There are great views from the terrace across to a waterhole, which attracts a lot of wildlife & this can also be visited closely as there is a hide above it. We were driven over there & stayed for 1½ hours during which time we saw huge numbers of zebra vying for a space, as well as lots else. Another water hole is located at the camp, which attracted lots of visitors including lions & we witnessed a kill there.
We took one trip out here & got some good bird sightings & elephants.
We could have happily stayed longer at Hobatere, just soaking up the surroundings and atmosphere." See all these reviews: 14n in Namibia
"Nice to see it open again"
The staff were very welcoming and so interested in what we had been doing, what we had seen and went out of their way to enhance our experience, with the guides running groups of people out to see two lionesses who were laying up a distance away from the waterhole.
We had 3 interesting game drives, which each presented different experiences within the African bush and enabled us to see a wide variety of wildlife at very close proximity. The meals were outstanding and well presented, using local produce. All credit to the Hobatere Concession community for getting this lodge up and running again, I didn't want to leave." "Excellent communal areas"
We were in one of the 'bungalows' - a terrace of rather tired rooms that clearly haven't been renovated yet. The room was spacious, but the bathroom was rather cramped. The chalets may be better.
As we were self-driving we didn't take part in the main activities here. We did though take the (free) 90minute visit to their nearby hide overlooking the waterhole. This was great - lots of animals came and went while we sat watching.
Overall a lovely lodge in a great location let down slightly by the quality of the accommodation.
Self driving around western Etosha from Hobatere was easy and a very rewarding experience - though be warned that there is a stretch of road between Dolomite and Olifantstrus that is really bad, heavily rutted and rock hard. Also another stretch between Olifanstrus and central Etosha. That aside, the drive was very quiet and we had waterholes largely to ourselves. We were astounded by the amount of wildlife we saw, including close-up encounters with lion and rhino." See all these reviews: 18n in Namibia
"Hobatere Lodge review"
Such friendly and helpful staff, very relaxed and laid back atmosphere, lovely chalets, small scale luxury (but not exaggerated).
Delicious food and beautiful surroundings.
Highly recommended." See all these reviews: 12n in Namibia
