Sossus Dune Lodge review

There was no room key, they had all been lost which was a little disconcerting.
the staff tried very hard to please, but did 'miss on occassion'. Most of the time if you asked for sparking water you received still, etc..

Rooms were very nice, light and airy. Pool was the best we found, it was warm enough to swim in. (none of the other lodges with pools were warm enough. Soussus Dune had a pool cover which was effective.

Sossus Dune Lodge review

Superb location for visiting the park as has a direct access to Sossusvlei so it is possible to make an early start. We did the sunrise trip to the dunes with the lodge which we would recommend and also a superb balloon trip booked for us by Expert Africa.

You can also easily walk to the impressive Sesriem Canyon. Spacious, comfortable room and bathroom with a good view from the verandah overlooking the dunes -the fridge in the room was a nice touch. It would have been useful to have had more information about the area and available activities in the room.

Food at dinner was disappointing and none of the good wines on the wine list were available. There is a large, comfortable bar/lounge area which is ideal for pre dinner drinks and watching sunset.

Sossus Dune Lodge review

Again we had a great stay and the facilities were wonderful. The location was further from the dunes than we had envisaged and we could have spent 2 days rather than 3 - although one of the highlights of the holiday, which we would not have done in a 2 day stay, was the quad biking which was a real blast!! We also enjoyed a ballooning trip ... but not as much as the quad biking! Once again our guide (Rambo) was excellent.

Whilst lodge staff were charming this was the only place where we felt they were at times unreliable (although they did arrange both quad biking and ballooning excursions). Lunches seemed to take an age, early morning calls were unreliable, breakfasts were the worst we experienced but suppers were the best!

Great to be inside the Namib-Naukluft park - you can watch sunrise and sunset from the dunes, and it is beautiful and peaceful. Thoughtfully appointed accomodation - service not outstanding but they certainly try.

Sossus Dune Lodge review

It was Very good rather than good.

Striking situation and imaginatively designed accomodation , verging on luxurious.

Guide (George ) well informed . Dunes sunset trip outstanding and gorge walk interesting.

Staff generally extremley pleasant and helpful.

Sossus Dune Lodge review

A really good location within the Sesriem park, great for early and late access to the dunes.

Very friendly government run lodge with nice if at times overattentive staff.

Luxury in the desert

Very efficient, and very classy. The accommodation was very comfortable, but a long walk to the reception.

All staff were friendly and helpful, but the place had a very 'corporate' feel, like a high class conference centre. However individual members of staff chatted to us in a very relaxed and friendly way, and went out of their way to be helpful.

The trip to the dunes was really well organised, and the guide was excellent.

Sossus Dune Lodge review

Check-in at Sossus Dune Lodge was a rather chaotic affair and unlike other guests we were not able to obtain a room key (we were told that this had been lost). Lunch was below average however dinner was pleasant. On the positive side we loved the chalets and appreciated the chance to take a self-guided walk to Sossus Canyon. The guided activity to Sossusvlei was great with a stunning drive through the dunes and a very knowledgeable guide. We used Sossus Dune Lodge as a base to take a hot-air balloon trip. This opportunity should not be missed!
