Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp: Our full report

Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp is located in the Intu Afrika Kalahari Private Game Reserve in the south west Kalahari, which is also home to Zebra Kalahari Lodge and Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge.

Unlike the other two Intu Afrika Camps, Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp has, as the name suggests, 12 tented rooms, including 11 standard rooms and one larger honeymoon suite, which also has its own private pool. Rooms all have double or twin beds with mosquito nets as well as tea and coffee facilities and minibars. In front of the bed is the entrance to the room, accessed by a large wooden deck with a table and chairs. This faces the plains in front and also a small waterhole. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with fluffy white towels and soap provided.

The main area here consists of the long communal dining table with a bar at one end and a small lounge with a fireplace at the other end. Walking through this room, you emerge on a large deck with more tables and chairs where dinner can be eaten on warmer evenings. There's also a firepit here were guests can gather for pre or after dinner drinks. In front is a beautiful infinity pool and a boma filled with loungers and chairs.

Activities on offer at Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp are similar to those at Camelthorn Kalahari Lodge. These include afternoon game drives looking for smaller game, and sundowner drives or walks to a dune for a cool drink. Guests can also participate in quad biking or have a treatment or massage, but they must drive or be transferred to Zebra Kalahari Lodge for these activities.

Our View

Suricate Kalahari Tented Camp is the more upmarket of the three camps in the Intu Afrika Reserve and so is suitable for those who like to take things slowly, and enjoy their surroundings. A couple of activities on offer means guests may wish to linger more than the usual one night stop off.

Geographics

Location: Southern Namibia, Namibia

Ideal length of stay: 1-2 nights

Directions: Heading south on the B1 from Windhoek, turn left onto the C21 at Kalkrand. After 42km turn right onto the D1268 and follow this for 22km. The gate to the reserve is on the right. Once inside the three lodges are quite badly signposted – make sure you ask for directions at the gate.
