Cornerstone Guesthouse: Our full report
Cornerstone Guest House is a very friendly, small, owner-run bed and breakfast, situated in a residential area within easy walking distance of Swakopmund's old town centre – and plenty of restaurants. In the opposite direction, the ocean is a short walk away. There are seven comfortable and clean bedrooms at Cornerstone Guest House, each with a private entrance. Each room has a flat-screen satellite TV, fridge, safe, WiFi access and complimentary tea/coffee-making facilities. All are decorated with a lavender theme, in soft whites, blues and lilacs. Five of the bedrooms are double/twin rooms, and two are family rooms. The family rooms can accommodate four people and are larger with a lounge area and pull out beds.
Each room has a large en-suite bathroom with modern fittings, a solar-powered shower (nice and powerful!), a loo and basin. A hairdryer, ironing board and iron, and extra blankets are available on request.
Outside each room is a patio, with table and chairs for relaxing during the day. The gardens are well looked after by the owners, who can often be seen pottering around tending to them. They form a very neat, orderly, colour-coordinated area with clipped lawns and smart borders of plants.
Cornerstone's central facilities focus on a large, bright breakfast room, with breakfast served at the time of your choice, to the accompaniment of classical music. In the corner of this room is a small sofa with a selection of books about Namibia.
There's also a small lounge area with satellite TV, and for self-drivers, secure off-street parking is available.
When we last visited Cornerstone Guesthouse in June 2014, we were greeted on arrival by the owner Peter, who immediately made us feel at ease. He was full of information about the local area as well as activities in and around Swakopmund and was happy to answer all our questions. In fact, throughout our stay, the staff were friendly and approachable, as if we were being welcomed into their home. Peter also told us how they give every guest a mobile phone on check in, to contact them incase of an emergency during their stay.
