Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled overnight South African Airways
flight will take you, via Johannesburg, to Windhoek, where you land around midday.
1 night at Pension Palmquell (bed & breakfast) | Windhoek, Namibia
Collect your hire car from the airport on arrival and take an easy 45-minute drive to Windhoek
. Settle into your guesthouse in the suburb of Klein Windhoek and spend time exploring the city or simply relaxing by the pool at Pension Palmquell.
2 nights at Onguma Bush Camp (half board) | Etosha National Park, Namibia
After breakfast you head north through Namibia's Central Highlands and rural farming towns to the eastern boundary of Etosha National Park
. Spend two nights within the private Onguma Reserve where you can game view at the lodge's floodlit waterhole. During the day, enjoy game drives around the eastern side of Etosha National Park in your hire car, and by sunset return to Onguma Bush Camp.
2 nights at Okaukuejo Camp (bed & breakfast) | Etosha National Park, Namibia
Game drive the entire way from the eastern boundary into the heart of Etosha National Park
. Etosha is home to over 300 different species of birds, many of Africa's big-game animals (including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe and rhino), and a myriad of fascinating smaller ones. On your way, pass the vast pan and open plains in the centre of the park before continuing to the southern side. Based here, you can easily explore more of Etosha's network of good gravel roads in your own vehicle, relaxing by the flood-lit waterhole at night. You stay for two nights at Okaukeujo Camp.
2 nights at Dolomite Camp (bed & breakfast) | Etosha National Park, Namibia
Set off at sunrise if you wish to improve your chances of seeing predators in action and drive across to the previously restricted section of Western Etosha
. Follow the main route west, stopping by waterholes on the way where sitting quietly may reward you with further sightings and photography of game as it comes to drink. These two nights you'll be based at the relatively new Dolomite Camp.
2 nights at Grootberg Lodge (half board) | Damaraland, Namibia
Exit Western Etosha's Galton Gate and head south-west into the scenic region of Northern Damaraland
. The breathtaking landscapes here are typified by granite outcrops and flat-topped mountains, intersected by ephemeral river valleys. This area is renowned for black rhino and desert-adapted elephant, as well as other desert adapted game. The lodge offers guided excursions in search of these fascinating creatures, or you could opt for a trip to a remote Himba village if preferred. Relax overlooking spectacular vistas at Grootberg Lodge.
1 night at Okonjima Main Camp (half board) | Central Highlands, Namibia
Wake to another magical sunrise over the Klip River valley. The journey today takes you back into Namibia's Central Highlands
to a private wildlife reserve at the base of the Omboroko Mountains. We suggest you arrive in the early afternoon, in time to take part in one of the optional guided activities which offer an insight to the dedicated work of the AfriCat Foundation
. Here you will stay overnight at the popular Okonjima Main Camp.
Depart in good time for the return drive to Windhoek Airport, perhaps stopping at Okahandja market for any last minute curios if time allows. Arrive at the airport at least two hours before your departure flight to check-in and drop off your rental car before boarding your scheduled overnight flight back to the UK
with South African Airways
Arrive back into London Heathrow early in the morning to connect to an on-going flight, or travel back to your home in the UK. Thanks to a similar time zone between Namibia and the UK, there's seldom any real jet lag – at the end of such a memorable holiday.
