Back to Windhoek and Haus Sonneneck
As before, convenient and comfortable

Welcoming and comfortable. Delightful gardens. Lovely breakfast.
The only downside was that it cost £20 (return) to take a taxi to anywhere within Windhoek (to eat, to pick up the car).
Great welcome, great lodging
We were made to feel very welcome by Gisela. This guest house rates very highly for hospitality and the quality of the accommodation - spacious, clean and very comfortable; and set in very pretty gardens.
We would have been very happy to stay longer but this was just an overnight stop after flying in.
Overnight stay at Haus Sonneneck in Windhoek
Haus Sonneneck made a good place for an overnight stop and a starting point for our trip. Clear directions were provided and we found it easy enough to find our way there (in spite of being told when we arrived that the leaflet we had been given was not the latest version).
The room provided was large and comfortable with a pleasant outside seating area. Gisela gave us a friendly welcome as well as advice about local shops and restaurants, and about our onward journey.
Relaxing stopover at Haus Sonneneck
After the long overnight flight, it was great to have an easy drive to Haus Sonneneck (simple to find our way up to the hilly, calm suburb of Eros) and relax until setting off on our travels the following morning. We got a good welcome and a recommendation to visit Joe's Beerhouse for a meal (lively with a very mixed clientele and good, interesting menu).
Rooms were large and simply but well furnished, with a lovely back terrace with table and chairs. Nice pool and good breakfast too. Just right for our first night in Namibia - nothing fancy, but everything we needed.
Haus Sonneneck review
The room was big - and very good for a family. We had a private outside patio - which was very nice, and spotted our first grey lourie. A good powerful shower and lovely breakfast too. One of the best breakfasts of our trip. Situated in a quiet and secure part of town, and well sited for an evening at Joe's Beer house, which was very atmospheric and fun.
A bit annoying was that we had emailed in advance to ask whether we could come early (as we were arriving so very early in the morning, heads reeling, off the night flight from Frankfurt, and wanted a shower and change before exploring Windhoek. We were told it wasn't possible because the house was full. When we checked in we discovered that the owners weren't there at all (a friend was looking after the place for the owners) and we were the only guests.
That said, the owners' friend was lovely and welcoming.
