Nice first night at Hilltop House

Hilltop House was a very pleasant place to stay on our first night in Namibia, the welcome was effusive and the room was splendid and vast with a lovely view over Windhoek and the hills beyond. There was a slight mix-up over a quick sandwich that we'd ordered when we arrived but everybody was most apologetic. The building work below the hotel meant we could not use the balcony because of the dust.

We took the car down to African Roots in the evening, a restaurant recommended and booked by them, and this turned out very well, with a huge (too huge!) and original meal. We spent the morning, after the good breakfast in our room, in Windhoek before driving south, and this was worthwhile.

Hilltop House review

An enjoyable, comfortable stay although rooms need attention to detail (e.g. kettle flex does not reach table top) and maintenance (curtains falling off rails.) Excellent bathrooms. Excellent breakfast served in our rooms.

An excellent start

Arrived late morning after flight and were delighted to have rapid access to rooms for shower and change of clothing. A good quality town map helped us locate road quickly, the sketch maps are correct but not necessarily easy to use. Provided with very useful advice about travel, and supper booked for us at Joe's Beerhouse. Hilltop House currently surrounded by building works, but these did not trouble us at all.

Walked into town and had cafe meal at Zoo cafe. Stores closed on Saturday afternoon, but had pleasant stroll around main buildings. The electric fences guarding most of the houses look rather threatening and do not reflect the extreme courtesy and friendliness that we met throughout our stay in Namibia.

Found it easy enough to walk back up hill in afternoon and to walk to Joe's, but were advised to take taxi back after evening meal. Driver collected us from dining table - an initial indication of the extraordinary efficiency of the tourist infra-structure that we encountered throughout stay.

We received a very warm welcome here. The staff were particularly helpful and allowed us access to our room as soon as we arrived early in the morning.

Friendly welcome to Namibia

We arrived in Windhoek early in the morning and found that an early check in was no problem.

Apart from being a little difficult to find, Hilltop House was well positioned and close enough to the city centre for what we needed. The owner was very friendly and helpful giving us directions around Windhoek.

Although we only had breakfast here, this was served promptly and of good quality.

Hilltop House review

The Guest House is fine. Unfortunately there is a building project right next door and one opposite which obviously leads to some noise and dust. It'll be great when it's complete.

We had aimed for somewhere that was walking distance to town but the distance and the final hill means it was more of a hike than most people would want. However driving down and parking was easy.

Quick stop at Hilltop House

Spent less time in Windhoek than planned due to incoming flight delay. A lovely warm welcome and a relaxing first night. It is a fair way out of town for walking, particularly at night. Joe's Beer House was good fun.

NB The access map needs checking as there is no direct access now from Robert Mugabe Avenue - you need to take Schanzen (left) from Nelson Mandela Avenue.

Hilltop House - the perfect B&B

A warm welcome from Allan and the rest of the staff. Despite arriving early, they made every effort to get our room ready and plied us with drinks by the pool in the meantime!

Pleasant stay with great room!

The room was huge with great views of Windhoek. Lovely balcony for breakfast. The breakfast was very good, as was the welcome!

They booked a table for us at Joe's Beerhouse. We walked into the town centre the day we arrived but it was further than we expected, maybe half an hour. We only stayed here one night, we didn't see the owner around when we left the next morning and didn't really know who to give our room key back to. We were very happy with the room here.
