Vertigo Boutique Hotel: Our full report
Set away from Windhoek town centre in the quiet and hilly residential area of Ludwigsdorf, Vertigo Boutique Hotel is a modern and stylish guesthouse which opened in March 2010.
After driving up a very steep road, you will arrive at Vertigo Boutique Hotel which has eight rooms, including four standard rooms and four deluxe rooms, or suites. Each room is individually decorated with different colours and patterns, although the dominant colour in each room is white. All rooms here are air conditioned.
The standard rooms are all accessed via the garden, and entered by sliding patio doors. Once inside, the first thing you notice is the enormous flat screen LCD TV with DSTV and surround sound that hangs on the wall opposite the bed. The twin beds are covered in cushions of varying design, and there are quite a few mirrors in the room. In one corner is a table and chair with a hairdryer, fully stocked minibar and tea and coffee facilities.
The en-suite bathrooms contain large 'rain style' showers, a sink and a flush toilet, and plenty of towels and soaps are provided.
The suites are located upstairs, above the breakfast room which has a double storey ceiling. The suites are all different but all extremely spacious with very large bathrooms that include spa baths and steam showers. The Honeymoon suite is 98 square metres and includes an outdoors balcony with great views over Windhoek, which looks especially romantic when the lights twinkle at night.
The main building is accessed from the parking area by a flight of stairs, although staff will help with your luggage. On entering you can see the large fish tank, which forms the centre piece of the lounge area. There's also a computer here for guests to use. To one side is the 'theatre room', which is basically a TV room with massage chairs for viewers to sit in. On the other side is the breakfast area and the balcony which contains a stream filled with more, much larger fish. From here there are more views over Windhoek. There are various individually selected art works on the walls all over the hotel.
Outside is a small garden with a pool and jacuzzi, and to one side is a covered braai area. Down a flight of stairs is the well stocked wine bar, and staff are happy to recommend a bottle of wine for you, either with your dinner or as a pre dinner drink, as dinners can be eaten here if booked in advance.
The hotel can arrange treatments such as facials and massages which take place in the hotel in their treatment room.
Vertigo Boutique Hotel has a secure parking area and can also arrange shuttles to the town centre or to the airport.
Our view
Vertigo Boutique Hotel is a beautifully designed small hotel that offers guests a little indulgence and pampering on arrival in Windhoek or at the end of their holiday.Geographics
Ideal length of stay: 1-2 nights
Directions: From Windhoek Airport head along the B6 to Windhoek and then turn right into Mission road (on our last visit here the signpost to Mission Road was missing) and then take the third right into Gloudina Street. Take the fourth right up a very steep hill into Zenobia Street and then Joey street is on the right. The Guesthouse is about half way along Joey Street which is a dead end. Be careful here – the roads are split level meaning that you cannot turn right into Vertigo Boutique Hotel, only left.
