Villa Verde review
This is the downside of our otherwise great holiday. Tracy had booked a superior room for us what we got was a tatty 'apartment' no 3. On complaining to the disinterested receptionist that our room was nowhere near the standard of that shown in ..the brochure, she initially denied that the one shown was in fact at the Villa Verdi .
The room itself had grubby floors, torn curtains, very old towels, broken kettle probably dangerous, peeling ceiling and walls. Next morning we found that the hot water shower knob would not turn on, we approached the 'manageress 'about this and it was fixed in time for our departure!
I can only compare the standard of this 'apartment' to that of Halali before its revamp but at more expensive price! Not recommended. However the food was good and the outside areas were ok.

Villa Verdi were very disappointed to hear that these travellers had a less than satisfactory stay with them. Leez Hövelmann (their Marketing & Public Relations Officer) apologised for standard of the room and the lodge acted immediately on the points raised within the complaint. They sent in a maintenance team who have now completely refurbished this room. Villa Verdi has also given these travellers a 50% refund on their stay by way of an apology.

Excellent cuisine - most unexpected! Top class service, friendly, professional, clean and fresh.

Same comments as for our first night, although the temperature in the evening was somewhat cooler.
However we had a very unsettling experience. We had opened all our windows to let some air in before we went to bed. We thought we had closed all of them when we went to bed, but had neglected to close the bathroom window. I woke up in the night, put on the bedside light, and went towards the bathroom. I was completely startled to find a man in the bathroom with one of our bags on the toilet seat. It was open and he had obviously been going through it. I shouted at him and closed the bathroom door. He quickly left by the open window. We called the guard but the burgler had left. Fortunately nothing was taken and no-one was hurt.
Although it was clearly our fault in leaving the window open, I do have to question the security at the Villa. Our room (#12) was adjacent to a small deadend courtyard with a relatively low brick wall to the outside. This wall had no wire or glass or any other security measure to stop someone entering into what was a very secluded area. It had 2 chairs and a table so these could have been used to gain access to a room by reaching through the small top window and opening the larger bottom window. This could happen any time, day or night without any one seeing. The villa has guards at the front gate but then has no secuirty for the rear wall. We did report the incident to reception the following morning and I wil be emailing them separately as a followup, with a cc to Expert Africa.
We also discovered that the curtains do not provide any privacy at night. Once there is a light on in the room, any one can see in as the curtains are so thin.
Fortunately all this occurred on our last night so it did not spoil our trip and did not affect how we viewed our trip as a whole. I just would not recommend staying here.

What happened to these travellers would have been quite a scary experience and both Villa Verdi and Expert Africa are taking this matter very seriously. These guests have received a full apology from Villa Verdi. Both Expert Africa and the guests have also received details of immediate improvements in the security measures put in place by Villa Verdi. We are also told of plans to renovate the guesthouse in 2008 including the provision of more suitable curtains in the rooms.
We will be travelling to Namibia during the early part of 2008 and will visit Villa Verdi to reassure ourselves that suitable measures have been taken to ensure there is no reoccurrence of this incident.

the pool area, location and restaurant were really nice but our room was poor and looked really ftired and faded compared to the rest of the places we visited. Service was good though

Villa Verdi have informed us that they will be refurbishing the guesthouse and all the rooms in 2008. They were pleased to hear that their service was well received.
Villa Verde review
The place itself is nice and the staff friendly. However the room we had (Room 12) was dark and quite hot and stuffy. Even though there were several windows there was no breeze or air movement. The fan helped a little but the air conditioning wasn't adequate.
This was our first night after arriving from Canada via the UK, so I'm sure we were suffering from jetlag and the heat which influenced our feelings about the room.
Nice small hotel - Rooms were freezing
