Google map of Ste Anne Marine National Park, Seychelles |
Just 5km from Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, Ste Anne Marine National Park became the first national park in the Indian Ocean when it was formed in 1973 to help preserve the wildlife in the area. Fishing and waterskiing are forbidden within the park boundaries, which encompass six small islands.
The protection offered by this national park means it has become one of the most beautiful areas in the Seychelles, and thus is very popular for scuba divers, snorkellers and glass-bottomed boat excursions, who can experience the diverse and rich marine life, with hawksbill turtles, bottlenose dolphins and whale sharks regularly sighted.
It boasts the largest “seagrass meadow” in the Seychelles, and it is not uncommon to find green turtles foraging for food in these grasses.
Local companies organise dive and boat excursions within the park.
