The Mille Collines was good for an overnight in Kigali (well located) - we used it at the beginning and end of our trip.
Having said that it is a little tired and the rooftop restuarant food didn't really justify the price (we ate better food at various, more modest, locations throughout Rwanda). The restaurant is now to be refurbished (Jan 13).
There is not a hint that this was "Hotel Rwanda". Has a good sized pool and internet access.
Nice hotel, restaurant service a bit ropey.
The hotel has lovely views, stylish public areas and nice rooms, all you could wish for an overnight stay. Unfortunately for us we stayed on a Thursday night which is party night by the pool which on anotheer type of trip would have been fun, but having just left the tranquility of the volcanoes, it did grate a little on the senses.
We retreated to the 4th floor restaurant which has beautiful open air views over Kigali. The food here is OK, but they couldn't cope with a vegetarian - although a strange mix of a plate of spaghetti, potatoes and veg turned up eventually. The service was incredibly slow and we waited an hour for our food, which was OK as we had nowhere to be, but for the country the prices are quite high in the restaurant so I was expecting better service.
Breakfast the next morning in the same restaurant was a well organised and extensive buffet. For the breakfast and view alone I'd recommend this hotel and if its not party night I'd suggest eating dinner at thee pool bar.

Expert Africa comments
We were concerned to read this feedback - we've passed it on to the managers, and are monitoring the situation at this lodge - which has previously been very reliable.
Hotel des Mille Collines review
Very high standard hotel but not quite living up to that level.

The management of staff at breakfast was poor.
Tables were not cleared and tables were not set correctly. Food often ran out and trying to order an omelette was particularly difficult. We did not try dinner.
Disappointing
We chose this hotel as it was "Hotel Rwanda", however, we didn't see anything that related to the hotels history which was disappointing.
We had dinner at the Pool Bar restaurant - our order was apparently forgotten so we had to remind the staff and waited over an hour. When the meal came (vegetable lasagne) it was of a very poor quality.
The hotel was very clean and the room was comfortable
pleasant stay
there was a misunderstanding about an early breakfast and staff was not ready
