Bat-eared Fox safari

This short safari is great value and an ideal first dip into Tanzania's renowned Selous Game Reserve – with 4 nights at Lake Manze Camp, a fairly simple camp offering a first-class and very authentic safari experience which is still excellent value; it combines very well with an add-on trip for relaxing beach time on one of Tanzania's tropical islands.

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways flies overnight directly to Dar es Salaam.

Days 2-5 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Lake Manze Tented Camp Landing early in Dar es Salaam, you are met and transferred to the domestic terminal to hop on a light aircraft to Siwandu Airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. This flight is about 45 minutes, and upon arriving in the Selous you have an hour's game drive through the park to reach ...
Lake Manze Tented Camp (full board & activities)
You usually arrive in time for lunch, and spend 4 nights here enjoying the game activities on offer with their enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides, including 4x4 game drives, walking safaris and boat trips on the Rufiji River.

Day 6
After your last morning on safari, you fly to Dar es Salaam, and then either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or overnight somewhere in Dar prior to connecting with your early-morning British Airways flight to London.

After your safari, if you want to add on a relaxing beach trip, then do ask us for our advice. A week makes a great second half to your trip; you can fly from Selous in the morning, and be relaxing by the Indian Ocean I the evening. For possible trips and cost, see our ideas of beach holidays on Zanzibar, or perhaps our trip ideas to Pemba, and also our add-on trips to the Mafia Archipelago - for more remote and secluded lodges.

If you only can spare a few days more, then a visit to the Ras Kutani area might be ideal, just an hours' drive south of Dar.

This itinerary includes:
• Economy flights as above, plus all UK and Tanzania international departure and passenger service taxes.
• All domestic transfers in Africa.
• The current park fees for your time in the national parks - U$75 per person per night for Selous.
• Guided safari activities, including drives, boat trips and walks in Selous Game Reserve. Lake Manze Camp usually organise two activities per day – one in the morning and one in the late afternoon – although will sometimes offer full-day game drives as an alternative
• A comprehensive pack of information covering, including a copy of the Bradt Travel Guide to Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia which includes a chapter on the Selous Game Reserve.

This itinerary excludes:
• Tanzanian domestic departure taxes – these are currently about U$6 per flight.
• Drinks are not included at Lake Manze Camp, other than filtered water/tea/coffee.
• Any park fee increases over and above the rates that have been included above.
