Bontebok self-drive



This self drive trip spends 12 nights in the Cape, visiting Cape Town, the Winelands and the Garden Route, starting at a very relaxing guest house in Cape Town and finishing at the wild and rugged Tsitsikama National Park at the end.

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled South African Airways overnight flight will fly you non-stop to Cape Town, where you will land early the following morning.

Days 2-4 Cape Town, The Cape
Bishops' Court On arrival at Cape Town airport pick up your hire car for the easy 20-minute drive to your guest house. This is located in the exclusive suburb of Bishopscourt and is within walking distance of the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Here you will stay for 3 nights at the luxurious –
Bishops' Court (bed & breakfast)
The next few days can be spent exploring Cape Town and the Peninsula. Your time can be spent relaxing around the pool at your guest house or on one of Cape Towns white sandy beaches. Visit the popular Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or take the revolving cable-car up Table Mountain for breathtaking views over the city of Cape Town and Table Bay. The possibilities are endless in this cosmopolitan city.

Days 5-6 Winelands, The Cape
Roggeland Country House A mere one hours drive out of Cape Town will take you to the wine-producing area of South Africa which spreads around the towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. Your next two nights will be spent at an historic Cape Dutch homestead situated just outside Paarl –
Roggeland Country House (half board)
Spend the next few days visiting the local wine farms where you can have lunch and savour the wines under the oak trees and enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery.

Day 7 Garden Route, The Cape
Leaving the winelands behind you head east towards the Garden Route stopping at the historical town of Swellendam on the way. Here you can explore the town or visit the nearby Bontebok National Park for some hiking or birding. Spend one night at –
Klippe Rivier Country House (bed & breakfast)

Days 8-9 Garden Route, The Cape
From Swellendam, head inland to Oudtshoorn, “the ostrich capital of the world”. Here you can visit the famous Cango Caves or visit an ostrich farm where you can learn more about these strange birds. Your next two nights are spent just outside Oudtshoorn at –

Days 10-11 Garden Route, The Cape
Leaving the Little Karoo and Oudtshoorn behind, head back across the Outeniqua Mountains to the coast and the start of the Garden Route. Travelling via Knysna and Plettenberg Bay you will arrive at your mountain top lodge where you are to spend the next two nights
Hog Hollow (bed & breakfast)
The next few days can be spent exploring the coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay (known locally as Plet) and visiting their numerous galleries and craft shops. Or consider tasting the wonderful seafood and oysters found in this area or exploring the forests to find the elusive Knysna elephant.

Days 12-13 Garden Route, The Cape
Leaving the Garden Route behind head east to the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park where you will spend the next two nights enjoying wonderful rugged coastal scenery. Here you can take marked walking trails up into the mountains viewing the stunning coastline and crashing waves.
Storms River Restcamp (accommodation only)

Day 14
After a leisurely morning in the Park head towards Port Elizabeth airport where you will terminate your hire car in good time to check in for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Here you will check in for your scheduled overnight flight back to the UK with South African Airways.

Day 15
You arrive back at London Heathrow in the morning, making connections to other flights very easy.
