Burchell's zebra safari

The Busanga Plains, in the remote north of Kafue National Park are the focus of this luxurious safari staying at two newly-refurbished camps – Lunga River Lodge and Shumba Bushcamp; it's a great safari to see a stunning area from its first really luxurious safari camps – and this area has Zambia's best population of cheetah, as well as excellent wild dog, lion and leopard.

Because of the black-cotton soil that is found in the Kafue, these camps are only open during the dry season in Zambia, between May and October.

Day 1
Beginning in the evening from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways overnight flight will take you directly to Lusaka.

Days 2-3 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Lunga River Lodge Arriving in Lusaka early in the morning, you'll transfer to an 80-minute flight to Lunga's airstrip, on the north-western edge of Kafue National Park. Meeting your guide, you are barely 10 minutes' drive to your base for 2 nights, overlooking the perennial Kafue River –
Lunga River Lodge (full board & activities)

Days 4-7 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Shumba Camp After exploring around Lunga, you drive for a few hours south-west. The landscape opens out onto the wide, flat expanse of the Busanga Plains: a seasonally-flooded area that host huge herds of game and dense predator concentrations. Your base here for 4 nights is the stylish –
Shumba Camp (full board & activities)

Day 8 Kafue National Park, Zambia
Lunga River Lodge After a final morning's safari, drive north from the Busanga Plains and east into the miombo woodlands which surround the plains. It's a great place to take a final evening's relaxing boat trip on the perennial Lunga River. Your last night on safari is 1 night at –
Lunga River Lodge (full board & activities)

Day 9
Leaving very early in the morning, you transfer by 4WD back to Lunga's Airstrip for the short flight back to Lusaka Airport. There you connect to a scheduled flight to Johannesburg and from there to your direct British Airways flight back to London Heathrow.

Day 10
Your flight arrives early this morning at London Heathrow after a superb trip to Zambia.
