Bustard safari
This 13-night safari with a private 4WD visits four of Tanzania's most spectacular game viewing areas – including the captivating Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area – where you will be accompanied by a highly knowledgeable superior guide who can help you to make most out of your safari.
|
Depart London Heathrow on your scheduled overnight flight with British Airways to Dar es Salaam. |
On arrival in Dar, connect with a light flight up to Arusha. Here your superior guide and a private 4WD vehicle will meet you. Pass through rural farmland, where the Maasai continue to graze their cattle, before stopping for a picnic lunch. Then enter Tarangire National Park for your first game drive before arriving at… |
| Oliver's Camp (full board & activities) |
| Tarangire is a particularly rewarding park during Tanzania's long dry season. It's an enormous, undulating park dotted with baobabs and frequented by a large elephant population. The south of the park, where Oliver's is located, is wild and remote – and contrasts sharply with the many of the busier areas found in the rest of Northern Tanzania. Use your 2 nights here to explore on walking safaris as well as game drives. |
After breakfast, enjoy a morning safari in Tarangire National Park. Spend some more time exploring the quiet southern part of this beautiful park, and perhaps head out on another walk, before leaving around mid-afternoon. Drive on towards the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, up winding roads until you reach the top and can look back for spectacular views. After a few hours of driving you will arrive at … |
| Gibb's Farm (full board & activities) |
| Gibb's Farm, on the Great Rift Valley Escarpment, is a great base from which to visit the Ngorongoro Crater and also Lake Manyara. During one of you whole days here, leave early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area – marvelling at the spectacular views as you reach the crater's rim. Descend into the Crater, to spend the day on safari in what many believe is Africa's most remarkable wildlife area. Expect close encounters with big game: lion, cheetah – and even the Kori Bustard, the world's heaviest flying bird. On your other full day – visit Lake Manyara National Park which is famed for its tree climbing lions and huge troops of baboons. |
After a final view of the Crater, drive northwest through Maasai lands, down onto the flat Serengeti Plain and into the Serengeti National Park. Drive through the southern half of the Serengeti, where you will see the open plains change into wild bush before stopping at a very comfortable tented camp, which is perfect for one night or more, whilst on route to the northern Serengeti… |
| Serengeti Migration Camp (full board & activities) |
| Migration Camp is perfectly located for the great migration in the months of July and August. However, throughout the year, this high quality camp is a good base to explore more remote parts of Serengeti National Park. Then the experience of your superior guide will help you to get the best out of the abundant wildlife. |
Depart Migration Camp in the morning with a packed lunch and drive deeper into Serengeti National Park. Few vehicles venture this far north, so you can enjoy real wilderness and might find that you have driven for hours without seeing anyone else. In August, the wildebeest migration will usually be passing through this area – and as you drive through you will see many herds grazing, before arriving at…. |
| Sayari Camp |
| Sayari Camp is the most northerly camp in the Serengeti – for many its remoteness is its real draw. A luxury tented camp near to the Mara border, Sayari is only a moments drive away from the Mara River. Form about August through to October the herds are crossing this great river, and it is a time of frenzied excitement. Stay here to se ethe migration, with very few other people around. |
|
After your last morning on safari, bid goodbye to your guide at the airstrip in the Serengeti, before flying to Kilimanjaro International Airport. Then either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or catch a flight to Nairobi to connect with your late overnight flight to London with British Airways. |
|
After an amazing safari, you arrive at London Heathrow early in the morning, with ample time to continue your journey home. |

Adding some time on the beach after this safari is very easy – we have lots of ideas! An obvious addition would be a beach trip to Zanzibar, although for a more remote island, with excellent diving and snorkelling, consider a trip to Mafia. |
