Cheetah self-drive

This self-drive trip combines Namibia and Botswana into a very affordable safari: visiting the Caprivi Strip's lush, green parks of Mudumu National Park and Mahango National Parks, the vast Etosha National Park, and the sparkling waterways of the Okavango Delta, before ending with a drive across the fossilised red sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert.

Day 1
Starting from London Gatwick, your scheduled Air Namibia overnight flight will take you directly (and non-stop) to Windhoek, where you land early in the morning.

Day 2 Waterberg Plateau National Park, Namibia
Waterberg Camp On arrival at the airport, pick up your hire car and drive for around 4½ hours to the Waterberg Plateau, a unique flat-topped plateau with stunning scenery and excellent birdlife. There is time to walk to the top of the plateau, from where the surrounding plains seem endless, during your 1 night stay at…

Days 5-6 Etosha National Park, Namibia
Namutoni Restcamp Time your days in Etosha like the predators: rising early to hunt for animals, resting in the middle of the day, and then heading out again in the mid-afternoon. The park is home to large populations of plains game, elephant and lion. Explore the eastern side of the park with 2 nights at …
Namutoni Restcamp (bed & breakfast)

Day 7 Caprivi Strip, Namibia
It's a fairly long but easy 5½ hour drive to Rundu on the banks of the Kavango River. As you are travelling you will notice the sparse, dry bush of central Namibia give way to lush vegetation and bustling villages begin to appear alongside the road. Spend 1 night at the gateway to the Caprivi Strip, in the delightfully rustic…
Nkwazi Lodge (bed & breakfast)

Days 8-9 Caprivi Strip, Namibia
Ndhovu Safari Lodge A short 2-hour drive brings you to Mahango National Park where the variety of vegetation – from dry Kalahari bush to riverine forest, open floodplains and floating papyrus beds – results in a particularly wide diversity of bird and animal species. Look out for the spectacular sable antelope, while you base yourself for 2 nights at the lovely …

It's an easy 2½-hour drive, along the trans-Kalahari highway, to the western side of the Kalahari Desert. Spend your last night relaxing, walking or join one of the optional 4WD excursions into the surrounding savannah. You will find the welcome and atmosphere very stress-free at …
