This 5 night add-on trip to Zanzibar includes 3 nights relaxing beside a long, white beach on the east coast of the island, before 2 nights exploring the fascinating Swahili culture of Stone Town; at both places, you stay in first-rate locations which are superb value for money.

This trip includes flights from and back to Dar es Salaam, but no international flights. It is designed to add onto the end of one of our Tanzania safaris to create a great trip with two very separate parts: a bush safari and a beach break.

Days 1-3 East Coast Zanzibar, Zanzibar

After finishing your chosen safari, you connect through Dar es Salaam onto a domestic flight to Zanzibar Airport, from which you often have lovely aerial views of the island. You are met and driven for an hour directly to the east coast, and your beach hideaway …

Pongwe Beach Hotel (bed & breakfast)

Spend a relaxing 3 nights here: lounge on the beach or in hammocks overlooking the ocean, then go for a refreshing swim, or head off diving or snorkelling.

Days 4-5 Stone Town, Zanzibar

A car collects you from Pongwe to drive you across the island for about an hour. Absorb the atmosphere and aromas of the island's colourful small towns and villages as you head to the maze of Zanzibar's Old Town, and the heart of Swahili culture.

Dhow Palace Hotel (bed & breakfast)

Discover the old mosques and Arab houses which have doors adorned with carvings as you meander through the alleys of Stone Town during you 2 nights at the Dhow Palace Hotel.

Day 6

You rise around dawn on your last day, to transfer to Zanzibar Airport for an early flight back to Dar es Salaam. There you connect swiftly to your daytime flight to London with British Airways.
