Crowned hornbill safari

This privately-guided safari combines good value accommodation with the luxury of your own 4WD and a superior guide; discover the forests, floodplains and flamingos of Lake Manyara National Park, journey into the amazing Ngorongoro Crater, and safari across the great plains of the southern Serengeti National Park.

Day 1
Depart from London Heathrow on a Kenya Airways overnight scheduled flight to Nairobi in Kenya.

Days 2-3 Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tanzania
Rhino Lodge A short flight takes you from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha where you will be met by your private superior guide. Then, in your 4WD safari vehicle, drive past Arusha and out into rural Tanzania. Ask your guide about the culture and history of this interesting country as you pass women dressed in traditional kangas (sarongs), Maasai herding their cattle and markets along the roadside. Entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area you'll drive along the Crater rim before arriving at…
Rhino Lodge (full board & activities)
Usually arriving in time for a light lunch, you can spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the surrounding hills on a walk with your guide. Soak up the spectacular views and perhaps see how the traditional Maasai live in one of the villages that dot Ngorongoro's slopes. On your full day here, you'll safari into the Ngorongoro Crater. A World Heritage Site, the Crater is home to vast numbers of animals; including wildebeest, zebra, lion and rhino.

Days 4-5 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Seronera Wildlife Lodge After a leisurely breakfast, continue on around the Crater rim and down on to the Serengeti's plains. Gradually you pass less and less Maasai homes, until you leave the conservation area behind and enter the Serengeti National Park. Then it's a pure big-game safari into the heart of the park, where you'll find your base for the next two nights –
Seronera Wildlife Lodge (full board & activities)
As you are travelling in a private vehicle, you can decide with your private guide how you spend your safari time here: where to explore, when to stop, and how long you stay.

Days 6-7 Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tanzania
Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge Decide whether you'd like an early morning or more leisurely start. You'll then drive slowly back through the Serengeti, around the Crater rim and down towards Lake Manyara National Park. In the late afternoon, arrive in time to take a walk through local farm plots (shambas), explore the lodge's large herb and vegetable garden or visit the children at the nearby orphanage whilst staying at...
Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge (full board & activities)
On your full day here, you'll visit the small yet exceptionally beautiful Lake Manyara National park and discover its diverse range of habitats. Drive through evergreen forests, across open plains and alongside a shallow alkaline lake sometimes filled with flamingos.

Day 8
In the morning, relax around Rhotia Valley Tented Lodge, perhaps further exploring the surrounding area. After lunch, depart for the drive back to Arusha and Kilimanjaro Airport. Then either continue on to one of our beach trips in Zanzibar, Mafia, Pemba or Ras Kutani ... or hop on a flight to Nairobi, where you connect with an overnight Kenya Airways flight back to London Heathrow.

Day 9
Arrive at Heathrow early, after a memorable safari in Tanzania.
