Firefinch safari
Stay in luxury accommodation throughout this 10-night itinerary, which explores Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and two different areas of the Serengeti National Park; expect breathtaking views and spectacular wildlife as you travel through northern Tanzania with your own knowledgeable superior guide and 4WD vehicle.
|
Depart London Heathrow with Kenya Airways to Nairobi, on an overnight flight. |
On arrival, transfer to a smaller aircraft for your flight over Mount Kilimanjaro to Arusha. When you land, your private superior guide will meet you with a 4WD safari vehicle. Your first drive takes roughly 2½ hours and passes Arusha, sisal fields, small villages, bustling towns and coffee plantations on your way to the lovely… |
| Plantation Lodge (full board & activities) |
| Plantation Lodge is perfectly located to explore both the Ngorongoro Crater and also Lake Manyara National Park. Spend one full day on safari in Manyara – which is a small yet wonderfully diverse park where you often find good numbers of game including elephant, buffalo and even tree climbing lions. Then on your second full day you'll drive up to the edge of the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater. Stop to take in the magnificent view from the rim before descending down onto the grassy plains to get close to the abundant and relaxed game that is found here. |
Leaving the agricultural landscapes behind, you'll drive through the Ngorongoro forests and around part of the Crater rim once more before reaching drier environs. Maasai tribespeople reside here and you'll pass herders in traditional dress and small homesteads (manyattas) on your way to the vast Serengeti Plains. These flat open grasslands are alive with the migration during the months of late-November to April. For your two nights spent in the southern Serengeti, base you self at the semi-permanent…. |
| Dunia Camp (full board & activities) |
| Making the most of travelling with a superior guide in your own safari vehicle with a pop top roof, you'll explore this game rich area at your own pace. You can even head out for the entire day – stopping somewhere shady for a bush picnic. |
Drive deeper into the Serengeti – further away from the busier centre of the park. Your destination is the Western Corridor where, during the months of May through to July, the migrating herds of wildebeest congregate. At this time you might be fortunate enough to experience the exciting and electric sight of herds running the gauntlet of crocodiles as they cross the Grumeti River. Whilst here, you'll stay at the original and very well run... |
| Grumeti River Camp (full board & activities) |
| During your stay at Grumeti River Camp you'll be guided by the camp's own excellent guides, game viewing from open-sided, covered 4WD vehicles which take up to a maximum of six passengers – allowing everyone a 'window' seat. Even without the migration, this is a fascinating area and there's the chance to see the rare and beautiful colobus monkey, enjoy a sunrise balloon flight (at extra cost) or take a day trip to Lake Victoria (at extra cost). |
|
Drive to the nearby airstrip and catch a light aircraft flight to Arusha. From here, either continue on to one of our beach add-ons in Zanzibar, Pemba, Ras Kutani or the Mafia Archipelago, or connect onto your international flight through Nairobi and on to London. |
|
Arrive back in the UK early in the morning after an unforgettable safari to some of Africa's most spectacular wildlife reserves. |
