Hawksbill turtle add-on

This unique beach add-on trip spends 5 nights at Quilalea Island in the remote Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique; it includes return flights and transfers to/from Dar es Salaam, and is designed as a very special add-on to a remote tropical island in a truly pristine environment – it's perhaps the ultimate beach add-on to one of our Tanzania safaris.

The flights between Dar es Salaam and Pemba (the main town in northern Mozambique), upon which this trip is based, do not run every day, and so talk to us about how to integrate this add-on trip with the rest of your safari.

Trips like this to northern Mozambique work best as add-ons to safaris in Tanzania. However, this add-on trip could be combined with a safari to Botswana, Zambia or even Namibia using direct flights between Jo'burg and Pemba which operate twice per week, though these is a supplement of around £222 per person for this.

Day 1 Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
Quilalea Island Resort Your flight from Dar es Salaam to Mozambique is usually with Air Mozambique, typically departing in the afternoon. After an hour's flight you arrive in Pemba, where you'll be met. After completing customs and immigration formalities, you'll depart by helicopter for an amazing scenic flight which takes about 25 minutes. A five-minute walk from the helipad, you'll arrive at …

Days 2-5 Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
Quilalea Island Resort Staying on Quilalea Island for total of five nights, your luxurious villa has air-conditioning, though you may seldom need it. It's a small island, that's easy to walk around in an hour or so, and Quilalea has a handful of secluded sandy beaches separated by outcrops of coral. Many activities are included here; some are not – but note that you can snorkel or dive on an excellent coral reef right from the beach!
Quilalea Island Resort (full board)
Having no permanent surface water, Quilalea Island is largely free of insects – including mosquitoes – which makes the island a rare treat if you're used to keeping your windows closed, and putting insect repellent on before wandering around in the evening; here you don't have to do either!

Day 6
After your last morning's relaxed breakfast, and perhaps an activity, you'll take a 20-minute boat ride to the nearby Quirimba Island – and then a short 10-minute drive across this island which is dominated by coconut plantation.

It's then a 20-minute flight by light-aircraft back to Pemba, from where you'll depart on your scheduled flight back to Dar es Salaam. Timings of these flights vary, but arriving in the late afternoon would be normal.
