Hippo safari (wet)

This classic Zambian safari gives you 6 nights in Zambia's South Luangwa National Park at Nkwali, the flagship camp of Robin Pope Safaris, from where you can explore the area in detail through 4WD game drives (day & night) and short walking safaris.

It's an ideal safari for those who have experienced Africa only when all is dry, but would not usually be our first choice for a 'first' safari – unless your budget is limited, and you're looking for a top-end safari camp at a particularly good-value cost.

Zambia's weather can be wet at this time of year; for the equivalent trip during the dry season (June to October), which would make a great first-time safari for people who like walking, see Hippo safari (dry).

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways overnight flight will take you directly to Lusaka.

Days 2-7 South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Nkwali Landing in the morning in Lusaka, you connect to Mfuwe (a flight of about 60 minutes) beside South Luangwa. You'll be met by a safari guide and driven about 30 minutes to Nkwali Camp, overlooking the Luangwa River. Arriving in time for an excellent lunch, and this will be your base for 6 nights of exploring on foot, by 4WD, and even by boat if water levels allow.
Nkwali (full board & activities)

Day 8 Lusaka area, Zambia
Taj Pamodzi Hotel After a morning's activity if time allows, you'll transfer by 4WD back to Mfuwe Airport for the 60-minute flight back to Lusaka Airport. There you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for one night at -
Taj Pamodzi Hotel (bed & breakfast)
Relax at your hotel and book yourself onto the transfer to the airport early the next morning.

Day 9
Rising early this morning you will be transferred through the city to Lusaka Airport. There you connect back to your direct flight back to the UK with British Airways, arriving back into Heathrow in the late afternoon – after a superb trip to Zambia.
