Honeyguide safari

On this extensive safari, discover all four of northern Tanzania's famous wildlife reserves with your own private superior guide and 4WD: experience the different wildlife and environments of Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, the amazing Ngorongoro Crater and the vast Serengeti National Park on this tour-de-force of the area's best game reserves.

Day 1
Take a scheduled overnight flight from London Heathrow to Nairobi in Kenya with Kenya Airways.

Days 2-3 Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Tarangire Treetops On arrival in Nairobi, transfer onto a smaller aircraft and fly to Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha. Your own private superior guide and 4WD vehicle will meet you when you arrive. Drive past the coffee plantations on Arusha's outskirts, and into the countryside. Pass occasional roadside markets and Maasai tribes people herding cattle, before heading into the wilder bush which surrounds Tarangire National Park. After around 2½ hours you arrive at your base for the next two nights –
Tarangire Treetops (full board & activities)
Tarangire Treetops stands in a wilderness area that has plenty of game, but is outside the boundaries of Tarangire National Park. So during your two nights here, in addition to 4WD safaris inside the park, it's possible to go on night-drives and walking safaris in the vicinity of the lodge.

Days 4-5 Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tanzania
The Manor After an early breakfast, set out with a packed lunch on a full-day safari. It's about an hour's drive from Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park, where you spend the day exploring. The birdlife is especially rich in the park's evergreen forests, and there's lots of big game on its open floodplains. Leaving in the late afternoon, it's a little under and hour's drive to –
The Manor (full board & activities)
The following morning you'll depart early for the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, because today you explore the extraordinary Ngorongoro Crater floor – one of Africa's very best safari areas. You can expect exceptional sightings of game here: herds of zebra and wildebeest, huge-tusker elephants, rare black rhino plus lion and cheetah which are exceedingly relaxed near vehicles.

Days 6-7 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Dunia Camp Leave at a leisurely pace after a filling and hearty breakfast and drive back up to the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. Perhaps stop to admire the view from the rim one more time before descending down onto the southern plains of the Serengeti. Drive slowly through this area with your knowledgeable guide – looking out for lions snoozing on the kopjes and leopard resting in shady trees. Perhaps stop somewhere cool for a packed lunch, before heading on to….
Dunia Camp (full board & activities)
The southern and central Serengeti plains are a great safari destination throughout the year – but in the months of December through to March this area sees the migration and teems with game.

Days 8-10 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Serengeti Migration Camp The drive from central to northern Serengeti often takes the form of a leisurely all day game viewing safari. As you are with your own private vehicle and guide you can take your time, stopping to see the things that interest you. Later in the afternoon, arrive at the comfortable….
Serengeti Migration Camp (full board & activities)
Migration Camp is a permanent camp in a quiet area in northern Serengeti – few people venture this far and as a result there is a real sense of wilderness here. The resident game is good in this area – though if you happen to visit during the months of June through to August, you are likely to find yourself in the heart of the great migration.

Day 11
Enjoy your last morning game drive on your way to a nearby airstrip to catch a light aircraft flight transfer back to Arusha. From here, either continue on to one of our beach add-ons in Zanzibar, Pemba, Ras Kutani or the Mafia Archipelago, or drive on to Kilimanjaro Airport and connect with your flight to Nairobi where you will meet your Kenya Airways overnight flight back to London.

Day 12
Arrive at London Heathrow early in the morning with memories and lots of photos of a great safari to some of Tanzania's top wildlife reserves.

Idea for add-on trips:
Following your safari, if you want to laze on the beach, then add one of our beach add-on trips to Zanzibar, Ras Kutani, Pemba, or the Mafia Archipelago, to your itinerary.

This itinerary includes:
  • Economy flights, as above, plus airport departure taxes.
  • All transfers in Tanzania.
  • Current park fees for Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, The Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Serengeti National Park.
  • A superior guide and your own private 4WD safari vehicle for your first six nights in Tanzania – with pop-top roof for convenient game-viewing and photographic opportunities. Then at Migration Camp in the Serengeti National Park – use one of the very good resident guides on game drives in a safari vehicle shared with other guests.

This itinerary excludes:
  • Drinks and laundry are not included.
  • Tips, which are optional.
  • The cost of arranging visas - currently (Jan 2012) holders of British and American passports do need a visa for Tanzania, which can be obtained through your closest Tanzanian High Commission or Embassy prior to travel.
