Roan safari



This safari begins in the south as you spend 3 nights in the Liwonde National Park, continues with 2 nights on the yacht Mufasa which sails to Likoma Island where you spend the next 2 nights followed by the last 2 nights on the Mozambique side of the lake.

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow on your scheduled overnight flight with British Airways to Lilongwe Airport, via Johannesburg.

Day 2 Liwonde National Park, Malawi

This luxury lodge is situated in the north-west of this lush and tropical park. Explore the park either during the day or at night in a 4WD vehicle or on guided walking safaris. Alternatively, spend time relaxing on the water as you take in the sights and sounds of the Shire River by boat.

Days 3-4 Liwonde National Park, Malawi
Mvuu Wilderness Lodge The next few days can be spent walking or taking a leisurely boat trip on the river. Or just enjoy the tranquillity of the lodge from your private deck. Along the banks of the Shire River are the plains and forests of the park which are home to herds of elephant and abundant birdlife, including species from both Eastern and Southern Africa. Amongst others, Boehm's bee-eater, the palmnut vulture and Pel's fishing owl have all been spotted in the park.

Although this lodge is located in Mozambique it can only be accessed from Malawi. It is situated on a lovely stretch of fine white sandy beach which is ideal for relaxing. The large spacious rooms are built out of local stone and wood and all command stunning views of the Lake.

Day 10 Manda Wilderness, Mozambique
Nkwichi Lodge You could spend the day here relaxing on the beach or do snorkelling, kayaking, walking or bird-watching. There is also the chance to visit a local village or visit the “farm” where the local people are taught to grow crops and raise chickens and goats.

Day 11
After your final morning on the lake, you will be transferred back to Likoma Island by boat followed by a light aircraft transfer to Lilongwe Airport. From here you will board the scheduled flight to Jo'burg in time for the overnight British Airways flight to London.

Day 12
After a wonderful trip to Malawi, you arrive at London Heathrow early in the morning with plenty of time to make any onward connections home.
