This extensive self-drive safari begins in the capital of Namibia, Windhoek; visits 3 national parks, namely Mahango National Park and Mudumu National Park in Namibia, and Chobe National Park in Botswana, allowing you to take in the stunning wildlife and African bushland; visits Impalila Island and ends in Livingstone, Zambia.

Day 1

Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled South African Airways overnight flight will take you via Johannesburg to Windhoek, where you land around midday.

Days 2-3 Waterberg Plateau National Park, Namibia

Day 4 Central Highlands, Namibia

After breakfast, drive for roughly 3½ hours in a north-easterly direction. Your rest camp is about 56km north of Grootfontein which is famous for the Hoba meteorite - one of the largest in the world. This rest camp is situated in bush land which attracts many birds and small animals. It is possible to go game and bird watching and follow walking trails. Days 5-7 Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Today is a full day's drive heading north-east, until you reach the Mahango National Park. It is situated in a corner between the Kavango River and Botswana. It is home to more bird species than any other Namibian park, and you can expect to see, African skimmers, Wattled cranes and Pygmy geese. As you drive around the park you notice the large amounts of magnificent baobabs. Along with the birds, this park is also home to a wide variety of larger animals, including, large herds of elephant, sable and roan antelope, bushbuck and reedbuck. Days 8-9 Caprivi Strip, Namibia

Travel through Bwabwata National Park to Mudumu National Park on the banks of the Kwando River. Spend 2 nights exploring these two parks in a 4WD vehicle and by boat. In good conditions it is also possible to visit the marshy Mamili National Park were crocodiles and hippos can also be sighted.

Camp Kwando (half board)

Days 10-11 Chobe National Park, Botswana

Heading further east, your journey will take you through the town of Katima Mulilo and then across the border into Botswana. After crossing the Chobe River it is a short drive to your lodge on the edge of the Chobe National Park where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Muchenje Safari Lodge (full board & activities)

Excursions into the park include 4WD trips as well as boat trips along the Chobe River where the draw are the large herds of elephants and buffalo. Walking with a tracker close to lodge also offer a great opportunity to get up close and personal with the bush.

Days 12-13 Caprivi Strip, Namibia

A short drive today will bring you to the town of Kasane, where you leave your hire car. You will then nip across the Chobe River by boat, back into Namibia to stay on Impalila Island for 2 nights at the very friendly

Your time here will be filled with private boat trips along the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers, game viewing along the Chobe waterfront, and the bird-watching is pretty impressive too.

Days 14-15 Livingstone & Victoria Falls, Zambia

Back into Botswana briefly before taking a short road trip to the Zambezi River where you cross to northern bank in a small boat, reaching the Zambia border at Kazungula. There your driver will meet you for the 45-minutes' drive to Livingstone – where the mighty Zambezi drops over 100m at Victoria Falls. Your base for 2 nights here is the conveniently located….

Day 16

At about midday, you will be transferred to Livingstone airport for your flight to Johannesburg, to connect to the overnight South African Airways flight back directly to London Heathrow.

This itinerary excludes:
• Petrol for your hire car .
• Park fees to enter any national park (unless on an organised prepaid trip arranged by a lodge).
• Tips and gratuities (which are optional).
• All meals and activities not specified.
• Zambian airport departure taxes (normally US$25 per person for international departures).
• The fee for dropping the hire car off in Kasane. The amount is N$3,500 (approx. £280), which is made up of a one way fee of N$2,500 and a collection fee of N$1,000 from Kasane Airport. This cannot be paid in advance, and must be paid locally.
• Activities in the Livingstone area. For example - white-water rafting, bungee-jumping and flights of angels over the Victoria Falls.
