Spotted hyena safari

This is great-value safari combines two of Tanzania's largest safari areas – Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park – in southern Tanzania; both parks are different but both offer a wonderful sense or wilderness which you will explore with experienced camp guides, whilst staying stay in unpretentious safari camps: Rufiji River Camp and Ruaha River Lodge.

Day 1
Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways flight, flies overnight directly to Dar es Salaam.
(See Flights to Tanzania for more information your flight options.)

Days 2-5 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Rufiji River Camp Arriving early in Dar, you are escorted through to your (45-minute) flight to the Mtemere Airstrip in Selous Game Reserve. You will be met by a vehicle from Rufiji and taken back to camp to freshen up and have lunch – then head out on your first safari activity. In the evening return to stay at...
Rufiji River Camp (full board & activities)
Staying for 4 nights here, you can choose between a range of activities during your days. These include 4WD safsris, walking safaris and also relaxing boat safaris on the Rufiji River and the lakes which connect nearby to it.

Days 6-8 Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
Ruaha River Lodge In the morning, catch another light aircraft from Mtemere Airstrip to Ruaha National Park. The park's wildlife is fantastic, it has Tanzania's largest population of elephants, and a guide and his/her 4WD will meet you at Ruaha's airstrip for the short but scenic drive back to…
Ruaha River Lodge (full board & activities)
Spend your 3 nights here exploring the park by 4WD, in a very different environment to the Selous – with different wildlife. You can even simply sit in camp, beside a very scenic stretch of the rocky Great Ruaha River, from where you can often watch hippos splashing in the river.

Day 9
After your last morning on safari, you fly to Dar es Salaam, and then either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or overnight in the city prior to connecting with your early-morning British Airways flight to London.

After your safari, it's very easy to add on a few days on the beach – and often great value. To take a look at some of our ideas – see our sample beach holidays in Zanzibar, our trips to Pemba, and the quieter escapes possible on beach holidays on Mafia and Chole.
