Topi safari

This safari to southern Tanzania's two great game areas – Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park – has an accent firmly on luxury, visiting two very professionally-run and stylish camps, Selous Safari Camp and Jongomero; both offer excellent accommodation and food, as well as exciting and informative walking and 4WD safaris.

Day 1
Departing in the evening from London Heathrow, your scheduled British Airways flight travels overnight, directly to Dar es Salaam.
(See our Tanzania flights page for more flight information and suggestions.)

Days 2-4 Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Selous Safari Camp Arriving early in the morning into Dar, you connect with a light aircraft straight into Siwandu Airstrip, at the heart of Selous Game Reserve. An open 4WD and guide will meet you there, and then it's a very short drive to the shores of Lake Nzerekera where you stay at the beautifully situated…
Selous Safari Camp (full board & activities)
Spend 3 nights here enjoying game drives, walking safaris and exploratory boat trips around the area's numerous waterways. Then after a day out in the bush, put your feet up by the pool or relax in the bar.

Days 5-8 Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
Jongomero Camp In the morning, hop onto another light aircraft for an interesting flight (about 90 minutes). Your destination is the remote south western corner of Ruaha National Park. There a guide will meet you at the airstrip for the short, 10-minute drive to the secluded …
Jongomero Camp (full board & activities)
Enjoy 4 nights at this luxurious and stylish camp from where you can explore Ruaha on all-day 4WD game safaris – or perhaps get up close and personal with the animals on walking safaris.

Day 9
After your last morning safari, you fly (about 130 minutes) to the coastal capital of Dar es Salaam, which is the hub for many of Tanzania's flights. There you can either continue onto a second section of your trip, perhaps a beach holiday to Zanzibar, or maybe take a short overnight stop in Dar prior to connecting with an early-morning British Airways flight back to London.

  • These camps close during April and May.
  • The prices shown are per person sharing; call us for single person supplements.
  • For a day or two even closer to nature, consider fly-camping.
  • Jongomero started walking safaris for the first time in 2009, and fly-camping trips are also available now; ask us about these and if any extra costs involved.

After this safari, if you'd like to head for the beach, then you can easily add on a few days on the mainland at Ras Kutani - which is a sister-camp to these two safari camps.

Alternatively, a slightly longer beach trip to one of Tanzania's islands works very well – start by looking at our suggestions for holidays on Zanzibar's beaches , or perhaps trip to Pemba or a break to relax and dive in the Mafia Archipelago.
