Woodpecker safari



This extensive luxury safari in the north explores three of Tanzania's most exciting and well-known parks; Lake Manyara National Park, the stunning Ngorongoro Crater and the breathtaking Serengeti National Park, as well as the lesser visited and wild Loliondo Game Controlled Area; explore with your own knowledgeable -superior guide and private 4WD vehicle – both of which help you to make the most out of this wonderful trip.

Day 1
Depart London Heathrow with British Airways to Dar es Salaam, on an overnight flight .

Days 2-4 Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area, Tanzania

Plantation Lodge (full board & activities)
Spend the next full day in the Ngorongoro Crater - the caldera of the Crater is full of wildlife, including elephant, lion, wildebeest and black rhino. These animals are used to the vehicles and love to lie in their shadows, affording you a wonderful close up and a perfect photo opportunity!

The next day, after an early start, head out with your packed lunch for a full-day safari in Lake Manyara National Park. This park covers about 330km² of which, seasonally, two thirds is covered by an alkaline lake! Grassy floodplains, acacia woodlands, evergreen forests and groundwater springs are home to a wide variety of game and birdlife, including, elephants, tree-climbing lions, spoonbills and flamingos.

Days 5-6 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp Enjoy a leisurely start at Plantation – before jumping in your private safari vehicle and heading back up towards the Crater. Drive around the rim of the Crater and descend down onto the seemingly endless Serengeti Plains. Nomad Serengeti Safari Camp (full board & activities)
This camp moves throughout the year and is usually well located for the the great migration - which really is a phenomenal spectacle. During your days here – decide with your superior guide, when you want to head out on a drive and for how long.

Days 7-8 Serengeti Migration Area, Tanzania
Nduara Loliondo Camp Drive through the Serengeti – where it is estimated that there are two million wildebeest, half a million zebra and hundreds of thousands of Thompson's gazelle, amongst many others, within the park. Drive to the east of the Serenget before reaching the Loliondo Game Controlled Area. This vast wilderness is lesser visited than the Serengeti, but is an extension of the same eco-system. Nduara Loliondo Camp (full board & activities)
This camp moves seasonally, spending half of the year in southern Loliondo and the rest of the year in northern Loliondo. This means that the camp is better located for the movements of the migration for different times of the year. Expect a stylish camp which is unique in design, the rooms are based on Mongolian yurts!

Day 9
On your final morning in Tanzania, drive to the nearest airstrip and catch a light flight to Arusha. From here, either continue on to one of our beach add-ons in Zanzibar, Pemba, Ras Kutani or the Mafia Archipelago, or transfer across to Kilimanjaro Airport by car. Here you will connect with your flight to Nairobi and then meet your British Airways overnight flight back to London.

Day 10
Arrive back in London early in the morning having thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful safari, with ample time to make the final leg of your journey home.
