Cap Jean Marie Chalets: Our full report
Cap Jean Marie Chalets are situated at the northwestern tip of Praslin Island, and are fronted by Anse Kerlan, a lovely quiet white sandy spot edged with white sand and edged with palm and takamaka trees. Cousine Island can be seen from the shore and the chalets back onto The Constance Lemuria Resort and its 18-hole golf course.
There are only three chalets set amongst the coconut plams, which are all self-catering, although a continental breakfast and creole-style dinner can be arranged if requested in advance. All three chalets are the same although one is slightly further back from the beach and does not have such good views as the front two. The owners live right next door so are always on hand to answer any queries or help you to make any bookings for activities and excursions. Car hire is recommended as you will you're your own transport to get to the local restaurants and shops.
The chalets are spacious and built on the sand from white-painted stone in traditional style with grey corrugated iron roofs. Each chalet has a small shaded terrace with table and chairs, accessed by glass sliding doors from the lounge. The chalets have beige tiled floors and white walls giving a light and airy feel. The lounge and kitchen are open plan; the lounge being furnished with cushioned wicker arm-chairs coffee table and television stand and decorated with blue and yellow striped curtains. The kitchen has wooden cabinets, a granite-topped breakfast bar and bar stools, and is equipped with an electric-hob, small fridge and double sink. Pans, crockery and cutlery are also provided.
The bedrooms have a similarly airy feel and are again decorated with blue and yellow striped curtains and matching bedspreads. There is a dark wooden headboard with integrated reading lights, bedside tables, fitted wardrobe, small dressing table and mirror. The bedrooms all have a ceiling fan and air-conditioning, as well as a safe. The bathrooms are en-suite and are tiled in sky-blue with a shower, toilet, and single sink set in a vanity unit with large mirror. Towels and linen are provided.
Cap Jean Marie Chalets offer a few facilities for its guests: there are cushioned sunbeds on the beach and there are a few snorkel masks which can be borrowed. The managers are also happy to help guests arrange activities such as golf, diving, island-hopping trips and car hire. As this is a self-catering property there is no restaurant or bar on-site.
If you are looking for a no-frills peaceful escape with a true “get away from it all feel" this could be a great option for you.
