This is a delightful place with excellent food.
One night the chef was unwell so the guesthouse booked us into a really good restaurant in town.

We stopped at Klippe River for 1 night on our way from Cape town to the Karoo and wished we could stay longer. The room was excellent and the food superb.
The night we stayed we were the only guests so whe had our own private dinning experince next to the log fire.
A little gem in a quiet backwater
Klippe Rivier and Swellendam were a delight. We stayed two nights as we didn't want any one night stops and it was definitely the right decision. Swellendam itself is a delightful town but for us the attraction was some fantastic walking in the Langeberg Mountains. The whole Overberg is an area we would like to return to to explore more - its not very touristy but the welcome to tourists is fabulous.
Klippe Rivier was delightful but lacked a little soul - each morning and evening there was a different person in charge so that little bit of personal touch seemed missing. Nevertheless the food was excellent and great value although with hindsight we wished we'd tried one of the places in town when we were the only people in on our second night. The rooms too were great - a feature of our holiday was that our room got bigger each time we moved on. The staff were very helpful when discussing where to go/what to do.

this place is up for sale.they had 3 quests including us.the food,staff,location and qulaity of accomodation is superb.I hope who ever takes it on maintains the same standards

The next day was the only heavy rain we had (good for them not so good for us!) on our trip.
The Bontebok Reserve was a Joy too - well worth the visit.
A Dream Hotel in a Wonderful Location
This was our first stop after D'Ouwe Werf and exactly what we needed. Set on a hillside with breathtaking scenery this lovely old historic building is run by staff who know exactly what their guests need.
Despite being the only guests we were treated royally. Nothing was too much trouble and we dined magnificently before being able to return to our room, light a fire and enjoy the quiet of a cold Cape evening.
Top notch and a very firm recommendation. As bird lovers we were even able to spend 2 or 3 hours birding beside the adjoining reservoir.

What a beautiful stop-over on the longest leg of the journey.
Peaceful, comfortable, fascinating history, fascinating collection of furniture etc.

We were the only guests staying yet they rushed us through arriving and dinner.
Overzealous attention throughout dinner asking every few minutes if everything was alright for sir/madam.
Nice room - very good bathroom, shower etc.

Lots of antiques, felt like being in a museum. A bit noisy, a factory was close by. Had a very friendly cat and dog
