Car hire in the Cape

Included with all of our Cape self-drive trips is car rental of a Group J hire car. These are the smallest cars that we recommend for the Cape. The complete choice of hire car categories is:

Group J hire car: VW Chico or similar. Manual with radio/tape. Comfortable for two to three people, and included in our prices.

Group B hire car: Toyota Corolla or similar. Manual with radio/tape, air-con & power-steering.

Group C hire car: Renault Megane or similar. Manual with radio/tape, air-con & power-steering.

Group F hire car: Hyundai Sonata or similar. Automatic with radio/tape, air-con, ABS & power-steering.

Group O hire car: Mercedes Benz C180 or similar. Automatic with radio/tape, air-con, ABS & power-steering.

Group V hire car: VW Touran or similar. Manual with radio/tape or CD, air-con, ABS & power-steering.

Group W hire car: Nissan double-cab 4WD or similar. Manual with radio/tape, air-con & power-steering.

We always hire the best cars that we can in South Africa, and these rentals include unlimited mileage and local taxes. We also include a UK-based insurance scheme that covers your LDW (loss/damage waiver), with a minimal excess. We believe that this is unique to us. It offers you supreme peace of mind, by avoiding the high excesses that you risk with other companies.

Note that car drivers aged 75 and over should specifically discuss their vehicle insurance with us in light of their age. In some cases, insurance cover for car hire may be restricted or supplements payable.

One-Way rentals

Note that within South Africa it's very easy for us to arrange one-way car hire in South Africa (and also between South Africa and Namibia. Please click on the following link for Car hire details in Namibia: Namibia hire car details). This makes it easy to start your fly-drive trip in Port Elizabeth for example, and end it in Cape Town. There will usually be a one-way drop-off fee for this, which is always paid locally by you (usually upon collection) and excluded from any price that we quote to you.
It's good to have currency before you leave Cape Town, as fuel stations only accept cash in South African Rand.
