This leisurely self-drive trip around the Cape is similar to the Bontebok Self-drive Safari but stays at more upmarket accommodation in similar areas.


Day 1

Starting from London Heathrow, your scheduled South African Airways flight flies to Cape Town, via Johannesburg, where you land the following morning.

Days 2-4

3 nights at Cellars-Hohenort (bed & breakfast) | Cape Town, South Africa

The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel is set in the heart of Cape Town's Constantia Valley.On arrival at the airport, pick up your hire car and follow your map and directions for 30 minutes to Constantia – a stylish winegrowing suburb of Cape Town. Here you stay for 3 nights at your luxurious hotel The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel. With your own self-drive hire car, the Cape is your oyster! Relax by the pool at the hotel or drive out and explore the city and environs!

Days 5-6

2 nights at Le Quartier Francais (bed & breakfast) | Winelands, South Africa

Le Quartier Francais is a smart hotel in the heart of the wine growing town of Franschhoek.It’s barely an hours’ drive to the well-known winegrowing town of Franschhoek, where you stay for 2 nights at the luxurious Le Quartier Francais. Spend the couple of days exploring the galleries and restaurants in Franschhoek or visit the local wine farms where you can have lunch and savour the wines under the oak trees and enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery.

Day 7

1 night at Schoone Oordt Country House (bed & breakfast) | Garden Route, South Africa

Step through the well kept gardens of Schoone Oordt Leaving the coast behind, head east towards Swellendam. Here you can explore the town or visit the nearby Bontebok National Park for some hiking or birding. Spend one night at Schoone Oordt Country House in Swellendam.

Days 8-9

2 nights at Rosenhof Country House (bed & breakfast) | Garden Route, South Africa

From Swellendam, head inland to Oudtshoorn, “the ostrich capital of the world". Your next 2 nights are spent here at Rosenhof Country Lodge. Use your full day to explore the Little Karoo – visit the Cango Caves, an ostrich farm or the wildlife ranch.

Days 10-11

2 nights at Phantom Forest (bed & breakfast) | Garden Route, South Africa

Phantom Forest is located in the Phantom Forest Nature Reserve on the Garden Route.Leaving the Little Karoo and Oudtshoorn behind, head back across the Outeniqua Mountains to the coast and the start of the Garden Route. Just outside Knysna, in the forests overlooking the lagoon, you will find a peaceful retreat where you spend the next 2 nights at Phantom Forest. The next couple of days can be spent exploring the coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay visiting their numerous galleries and craft shops. Or consider tasting the wonderful seafood and oysters found in this area or exploring the forests to find the elusive Knysna elephant.

Days 12-13

2 nights at Hog Hollow Country Lodge (bed & breakfast) | Garden Route, South Africa

Hog Hollow is located in the mountains with views over the surrounding forest and valleys.Meandering further along the Garden Route passing Plettenberg Bay, head into the mountains where you will spend the next 2 nights at the popular Hog Hollow. Here you can relax by the pool or on the pristine beaches at Plettenberg Bay, or explore further east heading towards the Tsitsikamma National Park.

Day 14

After a hearty breakfast, head towards Port Elizabeth airport where you will drop off your rental car in good time to check in for your scheduled flight to Johannesburg. Here you will check in for your scheduled overnight flight back to the UK with South African Airways.

Day 15

You arrive back at London Heathrow in the morning, making connections to other flights very easy.
