Nice guest house in centre of Franschoek
Nice room and grounds let down by a poor bathroom. Lots of lovely food and wine and scenery!
We ate one night at the attached Ryans Kitchen which is fun as you sit virtually in the kitchen. The food is unusual with some great flavours but some which did not work so well. Only for the fairly adventurous palate?
Small and tasteful house on main street
The room was large , tastefully decorated and well-equipped, with a great bathroom. The owners provided us with good information about restaurants and wineries to visit, and the breakfast was very good in a pretty setting. The hotel was situated on the main street of Franschoek, a quiet and pretty town in May.

We had a wonderful time in this really pretty and comfortable guest house, a very convenient place to stay.
The food in the restaurant, Ryan's kitchen, which is attached and where we ate the first night was nothing short of stunningly brilliant, we were so surprised. We didn't eat nearly so well elsewhere in Franschhoek.

comfortable B&B in the centre of Franshoek
Ideal location for visiting the town and the surrounding wineries.
Not our favourite place
This unfortunately was the low point of the holiday. We arrived at a weekend and there was only one new member of staff on duty who although very pleasant didn't seem to know quite how the place operated. Checking in was a bit chaotic and as she left at 8 pm we were left to sort the rest out ourselves.
Luckily we had made reservations for the "on site" Ryans Kitchen which provides a molecular style of cooking in a small restaurant watching the chef at work - a real piece of theatre and fine dining. After that things did still not go to plan as the places we wanted to visit were closed -museum, wine tasting - which was no fault of Rusthof but didn't help the overall experience.
We did have a nice Sunday lunch at a nearby winery as recommended by Tess from our last hotel. The scenery in the Wine district is lovely so it was a little disappointing that the view from our room was only a concrete wall or the car park (avoid room 7) although the room itself was nicely furnished and the advantage of Rusthof being on the main street was that it was easy to go shopping and get to the local eateries.
The usual staff on the last morning recognised we had not been entirely happy with our stay and gave us some wine in recompense. Riding at nearby Paradise Stables was fun on their arab endurance horses.

Rusthof was a great guest house an easy couple of minutes walk to the restaurants and shops in Franschhoek. The staff and owner were all very friendly and helpful giving us advice on vinyards to visit and helping when we had car problems one morning.
Franschhoek definately lived up to its reputation of being the food and wine capital of South Africa!
Rusthof Country House review
Our stay here was somewhat clouded by the forest fires which filled the valley with smoke and dominated everything happening in the town whilst we were there. However our room was very spacious and well equipped.
The staff were very helpful to us in a number of respects. Our overall experience (above) was really better than good but not quite excellent.

A lovely guesthouse; ideally situated for making the most of the excellent restaurants.

Excellent location, comfy room although it would have been nice to have had a double bed rather than 2 singles pushed together.
Ruth was an excellent hostess and booked restaurant tables for us. She was of great help when I needed to use her computer/email/phone as my father died when we were away.
