Fumba recently opened a PADI scuba diving centre with brand new equipment. Though the diving from Fumba is less spectacular than the best of the East Coast; the corals here are especially beautiful and in better condition. There aren't as many fish, but you'll usually see no other boats in area. It's a blissful experience after the relatively crowded dives around Mnemba Island. - View lodge details

Matemo Island Resort sits in a pristine part of the Quirimbas, with access to numerous relatively-untouched dive sites for varying levels of diver. Shallow reefs work well for novice divers; whilst deep coral drop-offs are home to large pelagic fish and turtles, attracting more experienced divers. The diving and snorkeling around Vamizi Island is probably the best that we encountered in the Quirimbas. There are 12 different dive sites to choose from, from shallow dives for beginners to more challenging ones for the more experienced diver. Neptune's and Fraggle rock are challenging dives – but absolutely stunning. There are also nine different snorkelling sites. - View lodge details

Lake Malawi offers some of the best freshwater snorkeling and diving in the world. There are plenty of brightly-coloured, and often endemic “cichlid” fish; the lake is always warm and the currents are usually moderate. Being an island, Kaya Mawa is a particularly good spot for aquatic life – and dives from the shore and jetties are possible. - View lodge details

Unguja Lodge has a dive center on-site, run by a company with a reliable reputation on Zanzibar.
