Each year, zebra migrate in their thousands between the Makgadigadi Pans and the new Makgadigadi fence which is as far as they can go. Meno A Kwena is one of the only water points in this area and zebra can be seen drinking here in their thousands during the dry season (Jun – Oct), together with numerous other species. The camp is a great spot to view predator on prey action as the resident Kalahari lions make the most of this feast. - View lodge details

The surrounding woodland is a lovely place to experience a variety of wildlife. Whilst on guided safari walks, you might have the opportunity to see forest associated species such as blue monkey, black-and white colobus and the amazing chequered elephant shrew. Game drives concentrate on the plains in the vicinity of the camp and the north of the park. There are very few other vehicles around, although when last we visited there wasn't much game around either. - View lodge details

The Serengeti's Lobo area has good permanent game, even when the great migration isn't passing through. Klipspringers and endless hyraxes live on the kopje, whilst buffalo, elephant, giraffe and impala frequent the plains. Lobo Kopje's mixture of jumbled, rounded rocks is ideal leopard country, and there is usually at least one pride of lion in the vicinity. - View lodge details

Jao is best known as a water-based camp, for its excellent boat and mekoro trips, but also offers 4WD safaris on the dry-land areas within the Jao Reserve. Expect large herds of red lechwe, reedbuck and tsessebe – and smaller groups of buffalo and elephant. Big prides of lion are the norm, and leopard sightings are increasingly good. Obviously crocodile and hippo are abundant – and it's a good place to try and see sitatunga. - View lodge details

There is plenty of plains game in Mapula Reserve including zebra, kudu, impala, steenbok, waterbuck, buffalo, lechwe, reedbuck and giraffe. Also present are elephant, jackal, baboon, monkey, lion and leopard. On our recent visit here we found a pack of wild dogs with their pups – unusually the beta female had also recently given birth to a second litter. On our night drives we saw porcupine, caracal, bush baby spring hare and genet. - View lodge details

As well as the excellent birding to be enjoyed in the Kwando area, there is a wide variety of game here including lion, large herds of buffalo, red lechwe, spotted hyena, and wild dog. There are also crocodile and large pods of hippo. One particularly enjoyable activity which can be carried out from camp is a cruise on the double-decker boat, from which on a bright day you can observe hippo walking along under the crystal clear water. - View lodge details

Common species found here include impala, warthog, red lechwe, kudu, tsessebe, giraffe, steenbok, vervet monkey and baboon. Lion, leopard and spotted hyena are common – cheetah are sometimes seen. Herds of zebra and wildebeest are resident from around May to December; elephants and buffalo follow a similar pattern, but there are individuals around all year. Kwando is also a good reserve for sightings of wild dog. - View lodge details

Ntwala's motor-boat trips along the Chobe and Zambezi rivers are excellent for birdlife, and spotting hippos and crocodiles. Relaxed big game from herds of elephants to massive congregations of buffalo are also often seen from the waterfront of Chobe National Park – especially during Botswana's dry season. - View lodge details

A guided walking safari from Chongwe River camp into the foothills of the Zambezi escarpment could produce sightings of the Samango or blue monkey (Corcophithecus mitis). Although found in pockets throughout south, east and central Africa, this species prefers humid areas with abundant water and tall trees making this is one of the only easily accessible spots in the Lower Zambezi to find them. - View lodge details

Bagatelle's typical Kalahari dunes have good populations of springbok, oryx, giraffe, kudu, steenbok, black-backed jackals, warthogs, brown hyenas and marvelously comical bat-eared foxes. There are several troops of meerkats, including a habituated group. On old oryx and a young springbok frequent the farmstead – both are semi-tame. The ranch sometimes has cheetah and leopard in enclosures. - View lodge details
