Local legend tells that the sweeping bay of Anse Forbans, the Bay of Pirates, is home to hidden treasure from days gone by. These days, the swash-buckling plunderers are all gone and the real riches are all natural: the long beach, swaying palms and quiet appeal of this island corner. Shoreline seaweed is generally not an issue here (exc. occasional days when the true east blows), the water has a deep drop-off for proper swimming and there are very few visitors making it easy to find a private piece of seaside paradise. - View lodge details

From the calm lagoon of the internationally renowned Anse Source D'Argent to the surfers' delight at quiet Grand Anse; the snorkelling at Anse Coco to shady Anse Severe – La Digue is bestowed with some simply stunning beaches. Access is invariable easy and rarely more than a pleasant 5-20 minute cycle ride, and the waters are always crystal clear and refreshing. Hotel L'Ocean is a great starting point and fresh beach towels are provided on request. - View lodge details

Anse Soleil Beachcomber's greatest attraction is its location on an idyllic secluded, sandy cove. Fringed with tropical palms and planting, lapped by crystal clear sea and at the end of a peninsula, boasting some stunning rounded granite glacis (large boulders), the beach here is really very beautiful. The water is warm enough for swimming year round, shallow enough at its edge for children, and clear enough to offer some good snorkelling along the coastline. - View lodge details

Beau Vallon is Mahé's main tourist beach, lying in a deep bay on the north-western coast about 3 miles from Victoria. Even though popular, it is still relatively quiet by European standards and it offers gently shelving sands, good swimming and snorkelling. If you are there in the right season (best August - October) book a trip out to snorkel with the whale sharks with the professionally run Underwater Dive Centre a few minutes' walk away. - View lodge details

With three stunning beaches surrounding Lémuria Resort, guests here are spoilt for choice. Anse Georgette is picture-perfect and especially idyllic when a tempting picnic hamper is delivered; Petite Anse Kerlan offers calm cove conditions while it's neighbouring big brother, Grande Anse Kerlan, seems to stretch for miles in a sweeping curve of fine sand and turquoise waters. For ocean lovers, there's really something for everyone. - View lodge details

The small cove of Anse Gouvernement, on which Hotel L'Archipel stands, offers not only a lovely sandy, palm-shaded spot in itself, but its orientation affords a fabulous view back along the golden curve of Praslin's Côte d'Or. Here you have the benefit of an almost private hotel beach coupled with the nearby possibilities of the more lively Anse Volbert with its beachfront restaurants and dive and activity centres. - View lodge details

Unusually for the Seychelles, Le Château de Feuilles is not right on the beach. Instead, it is perched high above the ocean on the granite coastal peninsula of Pointe Cabriz, Praslin's easternmost point. Given this situation, the sea views are stupendous; several beaches are within walking distance and with car hire included in the hotel's rates the island's entire coastline is only a short drive away. - View lodge details

Anse Source d'Argent is one of the Seychelles' most beautiful beaches, and one of La Digue's most popular attractions. Towering granite boulders, coconut palms, fine powder sand and reef-sheltered waters, make it an idyllic spot for romantic retreats, snorkeling excursions and family fun. Like most of La Digue's other beaches, it's a short, level cycle ride from Le Domaine d'Orangeraie. - View lodge details

In south-west Mahé, Maia occupies a stunning location on the hillside rising up from Anse Louis beach: a 500 metre stretch of powder sand bordered with granite boulders. There is not a great deal of shade on the beach itself, but with a perfectly pitched palm parasol and a tropical cocktail awaiting you within the hotel grounds, the few minute walk seems perfectly manageable! - View lodge details
