The surrounding woodland is a lovely place to experience a variety of wildlife. Whilst on guided safari walks, you might have the opportunity to see forest associated species such as blue monkey, black-and white colobus and the amazing chequered elephant shrew. Game drives concentrate on the plains in the vicinity of the camp and the north of the park. There are very few other vehicles around, although when last we visited there wasn't much game around either. - View lodge details

The Serengeti's Lobo area has good permanent game, even when the great migration isn't passing through. Klipspringers and endless hyraxes live on the kopje, whilst buffalo, elephant, giraffe and impala frequent the plains. Lobo Kopje's mixture of jumbled, rounded rocks is ideal leopard country, and there is usually at least one pride of lion in the vicinity. - View lodge details

The wildlife around Beho Beho is good throughout the year, with a healthy lion population and sometimes wild dog as well - though as nomadic animals you can never guarantee when they will be in the area. You are also bound to see an abundance of giraffe, wildebeest and the odd buffalo. Heading out with one of the camps excellent guides is a great wildlife experience; a really fascinating education. - View lodge details

Ruaha also has a few species associated with the parks further north, including Grant's gazelle and lesser kudu; it's an excellent park for wildlife. - View lodge details

The Selous Game Reserve and area around Sand Rivers has an abundance of game, especially during the dryer months of July, August and September when game is drawn to the river for water. However throughout the year you can expect to see good numbers of giraffe, impala, elephant and maybe even lions and wild dog which are also found in the area. - View lodge details

Ndutu Safari Lodge is a great base for visiting the short-grass plains of the southern Serengeti, and northern side of the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, including the Oldupai Gorge. Game drives and walks are possible here, with huge herds of wildebeest of the great migration congregating here, typically between about December and April. - View lodge details

It is possible to go on night game-drives and day bush walks from Klein's. The lodge is also on the route for the Serengeti's great migration, which passes through this area between around September and December each year. The best time to see this in the Klein's area is generally between mid-October and end-November. - View lodge details

Mbuzi Mawe stands in the central Serengeti – in an interesting area of kopjies. As well as the Serengeti's usual game, there are also resident klipspringer – but the real attraction here is the annual wildebeest migration. - View lodge details
