On the east coast of Zanzibar you will find seemingly endless stretches of white powdery beach. The water is usually crystal clear and great for swimming when the tide is high. When the tide goes out, it can go out for miles, and though you can't swim during these times, the exposed inter-tidal zone can be a fascinating place to walk. Unguja Lodge sits on a low coral cliff above a quiet stretch of beach. Though it doesn't have the endless long white beach that some may associate with Zanzibar, it is far away from other lodges and as a result is free from any hassle. When the tide is high Pongwe sits in a private little cove and then when it goes out, a wonderful stretch of inter-tidal zone is revealed for walking and exploring.
