Southern Sun Hotel
A necessary hotel to sleep at so as to catch the early morning flight home. Its location was closer to the airport than the last hotel we stayed at in Dar.
However you arrive late afternoon, eat, sleep and leave early so it is impossible to comment really
Southern Sun Dar review
Needed for our flight times but rather modest hotel! It's a pity there isn't something near the airport!

Some difficulty with on-line check-in, locating where and how to do it in the hotel.
Eventually we went to Kearsley's office on the mezzanine level (not the hotel desk who looked at us blankly).
Ta Dah! in Dar
I wasn't expecting much from the Southern Sun, I don't really know why though as it turned out to be a comfortable, well run hotel with some very nice touches and some of the best food we ate across the whole trip.
Rooms are nice, public areas comfortable, nice large terrace by the pool that served fantastic food at a reasonable price for a business hotel. Bottles of water given out at reception on arrival, plus a goody bag for the ladies (including some smellies and a kit kat). The gifts shop was well stocked if you have run out of time to shop and they will post a postcard for you at reception.
Overall and excellent overnight stop and should I visit Dar es Salaam again I wouldn't stay anywhere else
Mediocre stay at Southern Sun
We only used Sourhern Sun for overnight stay before early morning flight home. We ordered room service breakfast which failed to turn up. Room was ok but a little tired.
Evening meal in Resturant was good.

Fine for a stopover. Food was good and the staff friendly.

I thought the Southern Sun was an excellent hotel, one of the best I've stayed in. Good service, large rooms and good food.
The only downside was the location, being quite distant from the aiport.

Not much to report we were only there over night.

I stayed here for one night preparatory to returning to the U.S. after a 2-wk safari in the TZ game parks.
The hotel served that purpose very well, plus giving me a day to explore Dar. It is not a tourist hotel, with a much more business-oriented clientele, but that was fine. Good service, good food, opportunity to check email in the business center.
All the things one needs to do in preparation for returning home.

Fine for a night's stay although I had to chase them to get the time for my airport transfer in the morning, and then when I went down in the morning no one seemed to have any knowledge of my transfer being pre-paid.
When I produced a voucher someone from Kersey's took me but no one seemed to have a record of me.
