Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is a large hotel on the rim of the Ngoro Crater.
Bedrooms
The bedrooms at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge are all largely the same, however 91 of the rooms are doubles/twins with two queen sized beds and there are 6 single rooms, which each have only one queen-sized bed. Furthermore, the double rooms are all set at the front of the property with views out over the Ngorongoro Crater, whereas the single rooms are set slightly back, within the lodges grounds, and so don't have a special view. That aside, in design and style all the rooms at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge are broadly similar. Once inside, the walls are white-washed with a rough artex feel to them, wood-paneled ceilings and patterned cream carpets covering the floors. By the door is a spacious vestibule area, where a wooden wardrobe provides hanging space for clothes, and a cupboard houses a digital safe and more storage space.
The main bedroom has large comfortable beds, central-heating radiators for cool evenings and a bedside table. The double/twin rooms also have a glass-fronted veranda area, with two rocking chairs and a coffee table. From here you can look out over the Ngorongoro Crater and enjoy the lodge's wonderful views.
The rooms at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge don't have fans or air-conditioning; the temperature on the rim of the Crater is always cool due to the altitude. In the evenings it can actually get quite cold, hence there are radiators in the rooms which can be controlled in the rooms.
There are no mosquito nets in the rooms at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge – the cool temperatures and altitude mean that there is not a problem with mosquitoes in this area. That said, you are advised to continue taking your anti-malarial medication whilst staying here.
These rooms do feel dated; the soft furnishings and red-brick decoration around the bed have a lot to answer for. They also lack any Tanzanian character – but at least they are comfortable, very clean and spacious.
The en-suite bathrooms at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge are spacious and bright, with beige tiles and cream walls. The white ceramic sink is set into a wooden surface and there is a large mirror in front.
Each en-suite also has a proper flush toilet and a large walk-in hot-and-cold-shower. Home branded toiletries are provided.
The en-suite is clean, and well maintained. It is neatly decorated and functional rather than stylish.
