Rhino Lodge review
Nice feel to the place, like "old" Africa. Managers and staff friendly.
The rooms could have been kept a bit cleaner e.g. dirt under the beds, base of walls dirty. Toilet was loose.
Food got somewhat monotonous (basically the same each supper and packed lunches).
Rhino Lodge review
Our stay at rhino lodge was a good one,the rooms are simple yet comfortable. The food and service were also very good.
All in all it was a good experience and very handy for getting to the crater floor nice and early.
Rhino Lodge review
The food was especially good. Comfortable cozy lounge area. Friendly helpful manager.
Really appreciated the wee wood stove in the room. Basic rooms but all one needs.
Enjoyed all the animals that visited on the gounds every evening.
Alex tried to be very helpful with the bird identifications.
Rhino Lodge review
Rhino Lodge was a great place to stay.
All the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was good (although there wasn't much choice, but that didn't bother us). The rooms were clean and comfortable, and everything worked worked. The fact it is fairly small made it feel more homely.
If we go back to Ngorongoro Crater then we'd happily stay there again.
No rhinos but De Fasso Water Buck
The lodge could do with a makeover. It has a new manager so if he raises the profits he may be able to improve the lodge.
Reception area poor, rooms OK but furniture could be better.
The time in the Ngorongoro Crater both days was excellent and most enjoyable.
The trip to Empakai Crater was very interesting for the countryside en rouite and the Masai villages. The crater itself and the soda lake in it were good to see. The walk down to the lake and back was through interesting woodland - but it was quite a hike back up in the heat of the day.
Ngorongoro spectacular
Set back from the crater edge with no crater view , Rhino Lodge is a great budget option .
Although the Lodge was full , there was no noise and the buffet style dining and breakfast ran very smoothly. Although not in the same class as more upmarket lodges the rooms were clean and comfortable and 25mins from the descent road into the crater. The day trip to the crater was excellent and our guide Jackson made a great job of getting around and avoiding the crowds.
6 black rhino and plenty of lion ,hyena, eland were the highlights.
Rhino Lodge
Rhino Lodge was comfortable, clean with hot showers with great surroundings. Food was warm, good and plentiful. Our first lunch there was one of the best meals we had during our entire trip, may have been we were starving or the effort the kitchen went to to provide us a late lunch due to our arrival time. Heavy storms on a metal roof can intensify a storms effect especially if you do not secure your back door. What a scare when the wind blew the door open and thoughts of what has entered the room??
Ngorongoro Crater
Wonderful bush flight from Ndutu to Lake Manyara airstrip including buzz of crater on arrival to Lake Manyara. Jackson our
guide was prompt, professional and a valuable resource for game and bird identification.
Our game drive in the crater was fantastic, had great viewing including (15) of the (22) or so Black Rhinos with sightings of (4) babies with their moms. Once again bringing the right optical equip has paid off, using our scope we were able to view many things that would be disappointing to others with binos only. Our guide Jackson got a kick out of sharing some of the viewing through our scope. Got to see an Egyptian Mongoose coming out of the crater, they are very small and all black.
Excellent location for access to Crater
Staff very helpful. Food simple but good.
Robert our driver from Arusha Airport to Onsea House and for the next two days, was an excellent safe driver and very well informed about and a good spotter of wild life. Very pleasant to be with.
Rhino Lodge review
Excellent - basic but clean and no pretensions. Good hearty food. Recommended.
Buffalo and waterbuck feed on the grass right outside the rooms!
Rhino Lodge review
This lodge was a contrast to the Tarangire lodge, being more basic, but we enjoyed it very much. It had a homely feel about it and the staff were very firendly and helpful. (and provided us with filled hot water bottles on our first night.) A bonus was a small private balcony. It was helpful to have prior warning from Ellie (Expert Africa) that it could be cold at night, so we went prepared and were not cold at all. Again, we liked being close to wildlife and it was exciting for us to have a buffalo outside our balcony one morning.
We liked the more inclusive nature of the lodge which enabled us to dine with our guide - the only one of our camps which allowed this. He said that this camp provided him with the best accommodation of all three camps we stayed in. We think this is important as he had full days driving and escorting us.
