This great-value safari explores three very different parks in Northern Tanzania with a private superior guide and 4WD. Visit the Ngorongoro Crater’s World Heritage Site, spend two nights in the spectacular Serengeti National Park and explore Lake Manyara National Park, with beautiful views over the soda lake from your accommodation.
Your private superior guide meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport in a private 4WD safari vehicle, and your safari starts with a fascinating drive through rural Tanzania until you reach Bougainvillea Safari Lodge. Bougainvillea is quaint and good value, in the heart of the small town of Karatu. It is ideally located for visits to the Ngorongoro Crater – being only about one hour drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arrive mid-afternoon, early enough to take a walk around this bustling little centre and see something of daily life in Tanzania.
Leave early for a full day in the Ngorongoro Crater. Look out for black rhino, lion, cheetah and hyena. The animals are used to safari vehicles which allow you photo opportunities at close range. In the afternoon, leave the Crater and drive down onto the plains of the great Serengeti National Park. You pass traditional Maasai villages nestled in amongst the grassy slopes which are dotted with wildlife, before arriving at your base for the next two nights Ndutu Safari Lodge. This open area is alive with grazing game throughout most of the year, though between January and early April when the migration is in the southern Serengeti, the game viewing is spectacular.
Head out on your final safari drive in the Serengeti. Drive out onto the southern plains – looking out for the predators that make this area so famous. Stop somewhere for your packed lunch, before driving back around the Ngorongoro Crater rim and down the Rift Valley Escarpment. Spend the next two nights based at the very good value Kirurumu Manyara Lodge. Spend a whole day exploring the nearby Lake Manyara National Park. There are vast grassy floodplains, where you find herds of buffalo, giraffe and wildebeest, the park is also home to bright pink flamingos, cormorants, pelicans and storks. At the end of the day you'll return to the lodge for a sundowner drink overlooking the lake.
On your last morning in Tanzania, have a leisurely start at Kirurumu before driving back to Arusha. Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport and then either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or connect with your own arrangements.
