This long safari is great value and concentrates on the great reserves of Southern Tanzania – Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park. This trip takes a detailed look at these areas through three different camps – Lake Manze, Impala and Mdonya Old River; these give a great opportunity to explore the parks in depth, and to really get to know the different wildlife in each.

Day 1

Starting in the evening at London Heathrow, you take a scheduled overnight flight with Kenya Airways directly to Dar es Salaam. (See our page on Tanzania flights for more information on the options for your flights.)

Days 2-5

4 nights at Lake Manze Adventure Camp (full board & activities) | Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania

Lake Manze Camp in Selous stands on the beautiful Lake Manze.After arriving early in Dar es Salaam you will be met and driven to the domestic terminal for a 45-minute flight to the Selous. Landing at Siwandu Airstrip, you'll head off with your safari guide in an open 4WD, and the wildlife starts here! It's about an hour's game drive back to the lakeshore around Lake Manze where you'll spend 4 nights at the very natural and authentic Lake Manze Tented Camp. From the camp, you can explore the area and its wildlife with enthusiastic guides on walking safaris, 4WD game drives and boat trips.

Days 6-8

3 nights at Selous Impala Camp (full board & activities) | Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania

Each tent at Selous Impala Camp stands on its own, slightly raised, overlooking the Rufiji River.After an activity and a leisurely breakfast/brunch, your transfer between camps consists of a game drive lasting a few hours. You’ll pass through open floodplains and much drier country, as you travel south-east across the park. Selous is a varied game reserve that you'll be able to explore from a choice of walking safaris, game drives and boat trips from the stylish Selous Impala Camp; where you'll be staying for your next 3 nights.

Days 9-12

4 nights at Mdonya Old River Camp (full board & activities) | Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

The tents at Mdonya Old River Camp are set wide apart under shady acacias.It is a 90-minute flight from Selous to the dramatic scenery of Ruaha National Park, an interesting park which has recently been enlarged. In many ways the environment is a transition between southern Africa and East Africa; they contain species from both regions. Here their ranges overlap and you know you're in the wild. It's at least 30 minutes' drive before you arrive in the uncomplicated camp where you'll stay for your next 4 nights at Mdonya Old River Camp. As well as 4WD game drives and walking safaris, there is often plenty of game passing through the camp – and always some wildlife to watch.

Day 13

After your last morning safari, fly to Dar es Salaam. There you can either continue onto an add-on trip, perhaps a beach holiday in Zanzibar, or maybe take a short stop to overnight in Dar es Salaam before connecting to an early-morning British Airways flight to London.
