Going on a Samango safari holiday involves travelling between two excellent wildlife reserves in your own private 4WD safari vehicle. This allows you to see colourful and interesting rural scenes which many travellers to southern Tanzania miss out on. Whilst in the small yet interesting Mikumi National Park you'll explore the area with your own private guide in said vehicle. Upon arriving in the Selous Game Reserve, you're private guide will leave you to enjoy the Selous with one of the very knowledgeable lodge guides who know the area intimately. - you'll end your safari with a light aircraft flight back to Dar es Salaam.


Day 1

Depart London Heathrow on your scheduled overnight flight with Kenya Airways to Dar es Salaam.

Days 2-4

3 nights at Stanley's Kopje (full board & activities) | Mikumi & Udzungwa Mountains, Tanzania

Stanley's Kopje was previously known as 'Foxes Safari Camp'Your superior guide and private 4WD vehicle will meet you when you arrive at Dar es Salaam Airport for the drive to Mikumi National Park. This journey takes about four hours passing small villages and farm plots (shambas). Whilst in Mikumi you'll stay at the well situated Stanley's Kopje. Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania's quieter and more offbeat parks. Mikumi's open grasslands are home to a variety of wildlife including various antelope, elephant, giraffe and good numbers of wild dog. Vuma Hills is also a good base from which to take a day trip and hike in the fascinating Udzungwa Mountains; home to numerous special and endemic plant and animal species.

Days 5-8

4 nights at Rufiji River Camp (full board & activities) | Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania

Beside the great Rufiji River, Rufiji River camp has one of the best locations in the Selous.Heading from Mikumi, you drive to the Selous Game Reserve. It's a long but very interesting drive today, partly through rural countryside and partly through the various landscapes of the Selous Game Reserve. The Selous is one of Africa's largest parks and is home to huge diversity of animal, bird and plant life which you're knowledgeable guide will point out and tell you a bit about as you travel to Rufiji River Camp. Set high above the banks of the meandering Rufiji River the camp offers great views of hippo pods and basking crocodiles below. Spend four nights here enjoying game drives in open-sided 4WD safari vehicles and boat trips, all led by professional and interesting safari guides.

Day 9

On your last morning you'll transfer to a nearby airstrip for a light aircraft transfer to Dar es Salaam. From here you can either continue onto one of our beach add-on trips, or hop onto the Kenya Airways flight back to London, arriving the following morning.
