This great-value safari holiday in southern Tanzania combines two of Tanzania's largest safari areas – the Selous Game Reserve and Ruaha National Park. Both parks are different but both offer a wonderful sense of wilderness which you will explore with the help of experienced camp guides, whilst staying at down-to-earth safari camps: Rufiji River Camp and Ruaha River Lodge.
In Dar you will catch a 45-minute flight to the Mtemere Airstrip in Selous Game Reserve. You will be met by a vehicle from Rufiji and taken back to camp to freshen up and have lunch – then head out on your first safari activity. In the evening return to stay at Rufiji River Camp. Staying for 4 nights here, you can choose between a range of activities during your days. These include 4WD safaris, walking safaris and also relaxing boat safaris on the Rufiji River and the connecting lakes.
In the morning, catch another light aircraft from Mtemere Airstrip to Ruaha National Park. The park's wildlife is fantastic, it has Tanzania's largest population of elephants. A guide and a 4WD will meet you at Ruaha's airstrip for the short but scenic drive back to Ruaha River Lodge. Spend your 3 nights here exploring the park, in a very different environment to the Selous. You can also simply sit in camp beside a very scenic stretch of the rocky Great Ruaha River from where you can often watch hippos splashing in the river, if you choose to do so.
After your last morning on safari, you fly to Dar es Salaam where the itinerary finishes. You might like to consider one of our beach add-on trips.
