Situated on the banks of the Ruaha River, the smart but relaxed Azura Selous opened in 2010 under a different name 'Amara Selous' and is one of the newer lodges in the Selous Game Reserve. The lodge was taken over by new management in 2013 and has undergone refurbishment and rebranding to become the Azura Selous we find today. Its aim is to offer ‘the highest quality and services in bush hospitality’ as it ‘develops a luxury travel collection of tented camps around Tanzania’.
Our view of Azura Selous
When we stayed in September 2012, we found Amara Selous to be a well-run, high-quality lodge with a nice relaxed atmosphere in good surroundings. We have not had a chance to visit the lodge since it has been taken over by Azura and so we cannot comment on the current standards, although we expect it may suit couples seeking privacy and comfort. However, be aware that the wildlife in this western side of Selous Game Reserve is both less relaxed and less numerous than it is in most areas further east.
Azura Selous Game ReserveStop Press: From June 1st, Amara is to be taken over by Azura who run the very high quality Azura Benguerra in Mozambique. They plan to put time and effort into increasing the standards at the camp - with particular attention to the guiding. If it will be anything like the sister properties, then we're excited to see what "Azura Selous Game Reserve", as it's currently being called, will bring.
