Grumeti River Camp: video gallery

Grumeti River Camp: picture gallery

Grumeti River Camp offers laid back luxury overlooking the Grumeti River in Serengeti National Park.
The decor is an eclectic mix of fabrics and unique artworks.
Even with the bright colours, the interiors retain a very African feel.
It's an open camp with a selection of indoor, partially covered....
...and outdoor seating areas.
All overlook the Grumeti River...
...where there is usually a hippo pod in residence.
During the months of May to about July the wildebeest migration passes through.
The camp has a small swimming pool...
...which also overlooks the river.
The pool deck is often the setting for lunch.
Dinner might be in the restaurant or in the boma where food is cooked over open fires.
The menu for each meal is noted on the restaurant board.
Theres usually a few tasty choices, like these drop scones with bacon and syrup for breakfast...
...served alongside a private buffet of breakfast dishes - the meusli is delicious!
Even the honey was scrumptious enough to attract the bees!
For evening drinks there is a well stocked bar...
...where the barman has all the tools to make the perfect sundowner drink.
Sandy paths lead to the back of house and to each of the tented rooms.
Under thatch and a banana leaf ceiling, the spacious rooms are kept cool.
The tent doors can be pinned back during the day on request.
The private veranda is a lovely spot from which to enjoy the sounds of the bush.
And even the furniture here is a work of art.
Private and romantic dinners can be arranged on your veranda on request.
Each tent has a large bed, sitting area and a ceiling fan.
The large bed can be a double or converted to a twin.
A shelf unit with a safe and hanging space divides the bedroom from the bathroom area.
Even the bathroom walls are adorned with interesting artwork!
There are two doors at the back fo the tent, one to an open-air shower and the other to the toilet.
Each room is allocated a butler who is discrete but friendly - personal notes are a lovely touch.
Situated in the western corridor of the Serengeti, the camp is in a prime spot for the migration.
Big crocodiles wait for the herds to cross the river.
There is good wildlife viewing to be had here year round.
A speciality is the rare colobus monkeys that live in a small section of the riverine woodland.
Although you can drive here as part of your guided safari, most guests arrive by air...
...landing at an airstrip a short drive from the camp.
Game drives are done in open safari vehicles and led by very knowledgeable guides.
Early morning balloon safaris can also be arranged from camp at an additional cost.
Days often end with sundowners at a well chosen vantage point...
... where tasty bar snacks are prepared and served by the camp chef.
