Unforgetable introduction to safari holidays

Tanzania and 1 other country between 14 Jan 2012 and 27 Jan 2012

Trip rating: Excellent
"Maybe we were just very lucky and fortunate enough to have a guide to ourselves for most of the drives in Selous and Ruaha.

The animals were very co-operative often at very close quarters especially in presenting their young and often in rare situations e.g. a pride of lions with three very young cubs, a cheetah chasing impala and in turn being chased by baboons, a week old elephants being carried across a lake and giraffes fighting.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

Although it turned out that we did have sufficient, we would have appreciated a little bit more guidance on how much money to take with us."

Impala Camp

Impala Camp

"Unforgetable safari at Impala Camp"

4 nights Arrived 15 Jan 2012
"We were both very impressed with the accommodation, food, service and above all the quality of the water and game drives were superb.

Of particular note was the quality of the guide. We were very fortunate to have had the services of Gerrard to ourselves for three days."

Mwagusi Safari Camp

Mwagusi Safari Camp

"Unique experience at Mwagusi Safari Camp"

3 nights Arrived 19 Jan 2012
"Very different to our first taste of safari at Selous. It was like spending a few days as a guest at a country house party but with a bar bill at the end!

The drives were limited in that the vehicles were only allowed to use established tracks, of which there were plenty. We gather this was because Ruaha is a National Park and Selous is a game reserve. However, this did not prevent us from experiencing a very wide variety of wild life action at its best.

Nearly all the evening meals were taken outside on the river bank by torch light. We were really spoilt by a superb selection of food.

The staff and management team lead by Chris Fox (the owner) could not have been more friendly or helpful."

Pongwe Beach Hotel

Pongwe Beach Hotel

"Typical quality tropical beach hotel"

4 nights Arrived 22 Jan 2012
"Came here for three days post safari rest and this was achieved.

Unfortunately visit coincided with very strong winds which restricted sea activities. Lovely walks along the beach when the tide is out.

Location is somewhat remote, however we were content just to use the hotel facilities. Service could have been better - eg some confusion over our rooms on arrival and it took a couple of days for morning tea to arrive! Food was reasonable but they were hampered by the storms which were restricting the sourcing of fresh fish."
