A great experience - would do it all again

Botswana and 2 other countries between 11 Mar 2010 and 27 Mar 2010

Trip rating: Excellent
"We were very pleased with the overall selection of camps and the pacing of the holiday generally. We felt that going to the Kalahari first was a good move as it might have seemed a bit low key if we had ended here. The efficiency of the transfer arrangements including help with immigration was outstanding.

The advice regarding the "green season" was good and we have no regrets about going at this time. We only had two occasions when the heavens opened and one of the game drives had to be abandoned. Several times we had spectacular lightning without any rain. Viewing at the Victoria Falls was restricted due to the very high water levels.

It would have been nice to have spent a little time in Maun before flying onwards as it seems to be the centre of the universe as far as the Delta is concerned. The Kwando Safari organisation (including Moremi Air) seemed well organised and we liked their camps. We enjoyed meeting Sue Smart at Kwara.

Suggestions to help us improve our trips or our service:

The warnings about space in passports for visas etc proved unnecessary. We took wet weather jackets but this was not really necessary as ponchos and umbrellas were provided at all camps."

Tau Pan Camp

Tau Pan Camp

"Tau Pan Camp - a good introduction to safari"

3 nights Arrived 12 Mar 2010
"Three nights here were fine for us as we had come straight from the UK. Otherwise two nights would be enough as the drives were a bit limited by national park rules.

Good animals and birds several of which we did not see elsewhere. Staff were very welcoming and helpful."

"Very good all round camp with lots to do"

3 nights Arrived 15 Mar 2010
"We thoroughly enjoyed this camp. We had good game viewing especially as the guide worked hard to find things for us.
Birding was very good as well.

Boat trip was exciting particularly the ride back in the dark!!"

"A very nice camp recently refurbished"

3 nights Arrived 18 Mar 2010
"With few guests we had a guide to ourselves which made birdwatching more relaxed.

The restrictions of the national park did not affect our activities.

The boat safari was a bit disappointing partly due to the high water levels.

The food was excellent with a good variety of interesting meals

Lighting was "interesting" - candles and hurricane lamps with minimal electricity.

Postcards sent from the camp yet to arrive."

"Good viewing platform for birds and animals"

3 nights Arrived 21 Mar 2010
"The boat came as a nice change from the other camps.

Due to the very high flood levels much of the land was under water - it would probably be better to visit the Chobe river in the dry season.

We had a few problems with the outboard motors on the tender boats which threatened to disrupt the programme.

We enjoyed the company of our fellow guests but this could be a problem if you are not used to living at close quarters on a boat."

Toka Leya Camp

Toka Leya Camp

"Different - not quite our style"

3 nights Arrived 24 Mar 2010
"Our least favourite camp and quite different to the other camps in Botswana.

The camp was geared to a different style of visitor - mainly coming to see the Victoria Falls with many from North America. The game viewing was rather tame after the other camps but the birding was good and the river trips were interesting.

The dining arrangements were more those of a good hotel rather than a safari camp although service at lunch was pretty slow.
Airconditioned rooms came as a bit of a surprise."
