Useful links

We've included plenty of links throughout this site, but here are some general pages which may be interesting and/or useful as you research and plan your trip. If you've got any suggestions to add to these - please contact us.

British Foreign & Commonwealth Office
Has travel advice on over 200 countries across the world - including most ofAfrica. It tends to be a little conservative in its approach, but it's always important that you read this before you travel. (When on the site, start by clicking on 'Travel Advice' on the left hand menu!)

Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA)
EIA is an international campaigning organisation committed to investigating and exposing environmental crime - their low-profile work has a huge impact, and we're proud to be able to support them with behind-the-scenes help on occasions.

Independent Travel Directory - guidebook series
This is a handy and perceptive run-down of the various series of English-language guidebooks; start from here if you want to research your destination using even more book than those written by the Expert Africa team team!

London Hospital for Tropical Diseases
Very useful reference for any questions on travel health. Sountry advice is dispensed via a premium-cost telephone advice line - see the bottom of their 'Travel Clinc' page.

Possible travel insurance providers in the US
We are often asked for travel insurance by our travellers who reside outside the UK, and unfortunately our usual insurance company will not cover trips made by people who are not resident in UK or Ireland. For travellers from North America, we're happy to pass on to you the names of several insurance companies in the US who you can contact directly, and have provided cover for our travellers in the past. We have no experience of them ourselves, but hope that they prove useful to you. They are: Global Travel Shield - AIG Travel Guard - US Travel Insured - US Multiplan. Please let us know if you have a good, or bad, experience with a company, and we'll amend this list accordingly.
